light show optics
================================================== ================
Okay this is an optical question about how to make a light show using leds to go with my scanner.
i do not want to crowd scan with laser but i think there is nothing about using leds and some simple mirrors could give a similar beam effect.
i have found a lens to focus a led down to a 6mm point.

My problem is i need a second lens to stop that light from diverging so fast.
My goal is to get a 1in beam from 144in
but my max is a 3in beam from 144in.

This led seems perfect go along my scanner.
This idea i think would get me the best results.
can i put a relay right before the laser diode and use it to turn on the led and also add a cap in the separate led circuit to slow down the rate a bit as the rate of the lasers i expect are above the rate of the leds.
i just don't want to put one in there and have it destabilize the circuit or produce unwanted spikes and if not right before might someone suggest a better placement of one?
i want to use the modulation of the laser to control the led i do not care if the led only has TTL modulation just as that it works with the laser.
please correct me if any of this is wrong, i would hate to break or have made some stupid mistake and waste money.

A larger lens placed further from the LED will have a larger initial beam, but MAY have a smaller beam at a distance. 1" is damn impressive, and I think you're lucky to have gotten that far.
