I was looking at the g2/1 lens and also the 3 element glass lens for my first high power laser with the mtype m140 laser. Should I go with the g1/2 or the 3 element?

Do you care about power or about beam quality? If 1 go with G-lenses, if 2 go with 3-elements

I'd think beam quality is more important right now. What is a g2 lens? I know the 3 element glass lens is 3 pieces of glass. Is the g2 the same?

With a G2 single element lens lens you have less loss and therefore more power, but the divergence is a little wider. With a 3 element lens there is more loss, but the spot will be more powerful at a great distance. The reason the divergence is better with a 3 element lens is because its focal length is twice as long as a G2 lens, allows the beam to expand a little before being collimated, expanding the beam always reduces the divergence.

A three element lens will cut some of the edges of the beam off when used with some multimode diodes, so there is added loss due to that too, but the beam is nicer and slightly less divergence or spreading of the beam in the distance. If you want max power in the distance put a beam expander on your pointer, the output will become a fat beam, but will allow putting spots on the base of clouds where a multimode normally disperses too much to do that, unless the clouds are low.

Do you guys have any recommendations for a host? I have about 20ish m140 diodes and I cant seem to find a good and cheap host.

What about the g7 lens from Sanwu? they have good beam quality like 3 element and better power than 3 element lens

Simple, buy both of the above;) Seriously. It only takes a moment to swap lenses and a 3-element isn't much $ to tack on so you can have the best of both worlds AND not only do you get to see the difference with your own eyes but have another lens to swap or for something else.
Generally when people join they initially just want power but over time you really start to care about how the dot/beam quality plus why not tack on a single element while your at it. IF you pick 2 though go with the G-2 and a 3-element. You will not regret it and he ships fast for little $.
I don't own a G-7 yet but have heard good things.
On a side note, does anyone know for certain what name goes with the lenses that Eitan was selling in the 515nm GB? I keep referring to them as the 515nm GB lenses and I would rather say what we actually ended up calling them (such as G-9 or S1 or whatever). Weird that I can't seem to figure it out.

Why does the G series lens cost significantly more? It would make sense if the 3 element would cost more.

The genuine G2/G1 lenses are made in the U.S. and have a high quality anti reflective coating. The other cheaper single element lenses and the 3 element lenses are made in China.
