I wouldn't trust those goggles, get a proper pair from OEM Laser systems. You never know with cheap goggles...

I know I've seen in a store and some more serious China that sell laser pack + glasses

Is that I have seen these and remembered that DealExtreme were quite expensive.

Those ones from deal extreme probably aren't good. You only get 2 eyes. It's worth the 100$ to get proper eye wear.

Indeed. I purposefully looked into an expanded beam with one eye with those goggles before. There was a reason for one eye and it wasn't because so I'd have one eye left if it failed - its because the goggle leaves a slight gap between the bridge of my nose and where my nose obscures my field of view, leaving a really tight window where light could still get through at the right angle.

Anyway, I tested the laser on one of the 'side' protective lenses just because I was curious what happens when the goggle stops laser that is collimated and at full strength - I quickly removed the goggles from the beam path when I noticed that the laser was in the beginning stages of melting the lens. It looks kinda like a wrinkled spot on the lens now.


Later on, I tested the 'main' lens with a beam that had diverged to a diameter of ~3 cm, in the dark, using a white sheet of paper on the 'safe' side of the goggles and saw that not one bit of light went through. So, I donned the goggles, closed one eye, stood back, and looked into the the laser (with goggles on, dummy ). beam dia was probably like.. 50 - 75cm where I was when I looked into it. Looks pretty cool inside. It looks like a dim yellow light with a brighter central spot when you look into it.

My Laserglow OD7 goggles on the left, OEM Laser systems OD 2 goggles on the right. I had the OD2 goggles from/for when 445nm diodes weren't on the scene yet and I was mucking about with PHRs.

Edit: I'm not sure why I didn't go for OEM Laser systems' goggles again, when I wanted to get new goggles. But, I think I didn't look at their site again; I had their frame 700 or frame 900 model fitover, which kinda had sharp corners/edges in certain places; I had saw a coupon for a discount at OEM laser systems; OEM laser system's selection was easy to read off the bat. Looking again, OEM laser systems doesn't seem to have OD7 frame 700 or frame 900 fitovers for 445 nm wavelengths. But, maybe I'm wrong. I was also looking for more broad spectrum goggles too, which is what I got from LaserGlow.

PS. both my eyes are perfectly fine. Save for needing glasses since I was 12.
