Hey what's up guys?

Is there somekind of cap with a lense that I could put on this to make it burn? I know you can focus it with a magnifying glass to make it burn but I'd prefer something that I can just snap on. Is there anything like this?

You can make these very easily. Just get an end cap of the right size. You can usually get these from a hardware store.

Then cut a hole in the end and glue a small magnifying glass in it.

So the little lense from dvd drive would work? Can a cd player lens work?

Hey I can't find that lens that I took of my sled, does anyone else have a lens they wanna send me?

K-987, you might want to try removing the aperture cap, & see if there is a way to adjust the focus of the last lens that the beam goes through. They are usually glued in place with a drop or two of white, silicone based glue, & focused for infinity. If you just want it to be a "BURNER", you can easily scratch off the bits of glue, & screw the lens in or out until you get an up-close pin point of concentrated BR light. Once you have it focused to where you want it, secure it in that position with the same type of silicone based glue the Mfgr. used in the 1st place. DO NOT USE SUPER-GLUE, or any other glue that is cyano-acrylate based, as these types of glues tend to make the lenses develop a permanent "fog" on the lens surface. rob

Buy a disposable 35mm camera and take it apart for a cheap lenses. They have a very short focal point though, you'll have to hold the lens close to what you want to burn.

Webcams have better lenses that have longer focal lengths. You can usually find them easily too.

Thanks for all the help guys. Unfortunately I don't have any of the lenses you've suggested. I'll probably stumble upon one some time.

Before you give up, try this for free lenses. Stores like WalMart, CVS, Walgreens, just about any store that accepts the disposable 35mm cameras for film developing, have a section of the store where the film is removed, developed, & the empty cameras are thrown into a big box so the plastic can be recycled. IF, you ask NICELY, the stores I mentioned, will usually let you have 3-5 of the empty cameras for free. If they ask what you want them for, BE HONEST, give them a short & sweet explanation of what you really want them for. In my experience, IF YOU'RE KIND, 3-5 of the cameras will be yours, free of charge. FYI, BE CAREFUL of the 300VDC, black, capacitor that is on the inside PCB. That thing packs a whallop & holds a charge for a long time. Discharge it 1st, before proceeding with camera dis-assembly. PS, some of the cameras still have the battery in them, so you may even pick up a few free batteries, (AA or AAA) type. rob

My uncle works at a Walgreens. I think I'll see if he can bring some home to play with. I'll post some pictures and data on some of the lenses if I can get some.

Since he's an employee there, he shouldn't have any problems getting a few cameras for you to use. REMEMBER, WATCH OUT FOR THAT 300 VDC CAPACITOR, it can cause you to lose the feeling in your arm from the shoulder down, if you don't "drain" it 1st. rob

I've made many "tazers" using the charging circuit these cameras have :D

I've also welded chunks out of screwdrivers discharging caps like this, but discharging a CRT monitor = my screwdriver melted lol

How close is the focal point? If it's too close I don't know if I want to use it.

It never ceases to amaze me at how much of a jolt can come out of a 1.5 Volt AA or AAA battery, & one of those 300 VDC capacitors & accompanying circuitry. Unfortunately, my right arm can bear mute testimony to that fact, several times. rob
