Hi nkgamer1990,

There are probably more appropriate forums than this to find help with that project. Is it CPF, (Candle Power Forums)? They deal with flashlight modification.

Go to CPF. I will say that the sources that collimate best (and hence, throw best) are laser diodes because of the sheer brightness coming from mere nanometers-wide spot.

Definitely check out CPF for flashlight mods. (DEFT comes to mind....)

Not necessarily, the biggest reason that lasers collimate so well with optics is because laser light is monochromatic, all the light refracts through optics to a constant and predictable degree. With a mix of wavelengths, you get something called chromatic aberration.

I would use an aspheric lens, no reflector. You can get these from CPF market place or KD.

Or the Tiablo A9s:
