Different ways to open the back of ?

Anybody want to tell their method of opening the back of the aixiz lens...

I'll start... use a scalpel or exacto knife and cut it into pizza like wedges and then tweezers to peel back [highlight]please use caution[/highlight]...

Is there a way, I wonder to order them that way cause my finger has seen better days :'(

If this has been gone over, it's not in the search option I appologize if I over saw it...

P.S. the aixiz people won't responed to any e-mails wonder why?

After testing many Aixiz plastic lenses...
I think that Aixiz glass lenses are far more consistent.

I usually get more power from an Aixiz glass lens thanthe typical Aixiz plastic on my BR's.

Anyway, to open the back, a sharp exacto knife cutting along the inside edge is still the easiest method.

AixiZ doesn't make the lenses. I'm sure they order them in bulk from somebody else...

Larry, that's the first I have heard of anybody getting more power for blu-ray with AixiZ glass vs AixiZ acrylic??

Does the AixiZ acrylic you are comparing have the back opened?

I tested these long ago. But just did another test to double check after I read your comments. I used a normal PHR build at 121mA's. Using my Coherent PowerMax 5200 with PM3 thermal head, which is right on the money in comparison with the meter calibration experiment that some of us did (passing around the same blu-ray and red lasers), my measurements are as follows:

* AixiZ acrylic (back opened) - 107mW's
* AixiZ glass - 100mW's (7% less than AixiZ acrylic)
* 405-G-1 glass - 136mW's (Over 27% increase vs AixiZ acrylic)

The best method I've found so far is to simply take a very sharp box cutter or exacto knife, position it over the first thread in the lens, and simply press down, lopping off the entire aperture layer in one go.

The Aixiz plastic lens was brand new stock. The back was not opened (a few percent).

I have found the plastic lenses to vary in power quite a bit (inconsistent).

The Ultraviolet will gradually yellow the plastic anyways, lessening the power output.

I have tested two different PHR Blu-Rays...
with a very slight improvement for the Aixiz glass lens.

I have a ton of Aixiz plastic lenses...
if you want to buy them Jay.

screw the lens into the aixiz backwards, leave 2 threads sticking out of the module. Now take your very sharp blade and make it very hot, then slice off a nice straight layer.

I never asked to buy them...

I have plenty. I just wanted to know why you were getting more power with AixiZ glass vs AixiZ acrylic for blu-ray.

I figured it was because you did not cut the back opened. These things need to be mentioned when stating power comparisons. Or some people could be missled is all.

So thanks for clearing that up!

If you mean you want a way for cut only til a certain deepness (for not reach the lens and ruin it, i mean), then build a space regulator with 2 little pieces of brass thick 1 mm and few screws, i do it with blades (and drill bits), when i need it.

I use a small set if snap on wire cutters very small and i just snip in a circle until its gone works great for me looks a tad bit ugly but heck so do I

I use a upcut mill and machine it open. I haven't opened up any lately, for me it's just not that much of a difference to bother. I do tell my customers about it and leave it up to them.

CO2 power

I pop out the little lense retainer with the iris hole I want to enlarge and stick it on to a steel plate with double back tape and place it in the CO2 laser's cutting chamber line it up with this little red laser close the lid( and I can put ten in a row if I want) and pick the size of circle I want it to cut then hit the enter key on the computer and it's all done in about 6 seconds perfect hole laser cut. :crackup:

A small sharp paring knife is the best, cut to the edge and pry the plastic out OR cut the ring of plastic by getting it to tear/cut by pressure from the knife. Exacto's seem too fragile for the job.

i just pop it out... take a dremel with a drill bit in it n drill the hole bigger leaving about 1mm of the rim left n pop it back in. perfect circle

screw your lens in upside down with the desire amount to be cut sticking out of the top of the aixiz module.

now slide a razor blade across the aixiz module.....

you now have a cleanly opened lens.

^ yes, but careful ..... focusing the beam near the module, require to screw out the lens holder, and if you cut away too much plastic, then you have no more screw thread, maybe .....
