Cylindrical Lens Pair Mount Tube Rebuild & Test Video !

After doing some testing on my "Hammer" with the new NUBM44-81 diode i figured out the cylindrical lens pair wasn't aligned as good as it could be which i was pretty sure was because of the "rails" had issues because i used tooth picks for them....

So i removed them and cleaned the tube and decided to use the metal tubes from two ball point pens...

And epoxied them into place using JB Weld to make sure the new rails stayed in place....

To speed the cure time up i just set them on the dash of my car and in Las Vegas the car acts like an oven and cures the epoxy in record time !

With the epoxy all cured i can remove the rubber band that held the metal tube rail in place....

And remove the two plates acting as stand ins for correct rail spacing.....

Next it's time to cut off the ends of the metal tubes and i'll use my handy dermal with a cutoff wheel......

Here's the finished cylindrical lens mount tube....

Time to install the lens sliders that carry the lenses and install lens mount tube on the laser !

Cool, All done and adjusted, Time to test how well it turned out, One of the quick ways i test it is with some plastic items i have in a row that have a difference of how easy the plastic will ignite into a flame with the easiest to ignite on the right which is very easy to ignite a flame, And the hardest to ignite on the left which the older NUBM44-71 diode with the old cylindrical lens pair mount tube with the tooth pick rails would never ignite...

Here's a video testing the new mount tube with the new metal alignment rails and installed on the laser with the new NUBM44-81 diode i just installed, lets give it a go on the plastic array from across the room !

Wow as you can see this new setup easily ignites the first three test plastics but the surprise is how easily ignites the plastic on the left which it could never ignite before with the older NUBM44-71 diode and the old mount tube with the tooth pick rail system !!!

There's a big difference in power to the target ! Much more than before the updates !!!

Very creative! Looks good!

I like your method for speeding up the curing process.

You might actually consider looking into UV cure adhesives, you can cure them real quick with a 405nm pointer and there's many out there that are very effective.

That's a great idea, I'll look in to it !
