Re: The Cyan Cannon V Build

Talk about too many... I think my collection is kind of a running joke;) Even after giving away a bunch and selling a few I still have more than 300 lol. I know at one point I had around 360 so at least I'm headed in the right direction. It's weird having so many unique hosts and I can't really give them away to aquaintenances as I am afraid they will hurt themselves or someone else.
It turned into the same as any hobby I've ever gotter into. When I get into something it gets out of control. I guess it's OK as I no longer have the $ to get into anything else without selling off a lot of stuff. I wouldn't mind getting into drones but anything I would like is way too expensive.
CD, your projects are insane as always;) I'll try and +4 you if I can.

Re: The Cyan Cannon V Build

Crazyspaz/Pman...thanx for the encouragement !!!

This build....as all my others....are a process of evolution !!! See pics...The second is alive now !!! Lota strange things in the sea !!!

I think I may spend some effort to make this build look good too!

Well....I can either have the HSOP anodized black....or...strip the black anodized from the host ???....so...black with black....or...bare Aluminum with bare Aluminum....

I am leaning toward having the HSOP anodized !!

OR...I could just have it all Gold plated hahahaha...maybe ???

Any members have any experience with removing an anodized finish ??...or....who does black anodizing for a good price ????

Anyone's thoughts on an all black....or an all bare Aluminum finish ??? I just think two-tone looks a little hack ????......and while I am fully aware that this build will win no streamline/beauty contest....as usual....form takes a back seat to function !! Oh well !!!

Thanx !!!

Note: CS....All my builds remain intact....some obsolete....but....intact !!

Re: The Cyan Cannon V Build

Yeah mate, I've removed anodizing before. Well, sorta. Soak your parts in a sodium hydroxide bath, it's sold as drain cleaner under the title of pure lye. It eats away at the anodizing, but leaves the aluminium underneath. I've tried it, to strip the red anodizing off a nice flashlight. However, I conducted it outside in my backyard, and the temperature was a rather brisk -30°C. As we all learned in chemistry class, temperature affects the rate of reactions. So hardly much happened with me, but if it's carried out in a proper environment, you can expect to scrub off the anodizing with a toothbrush like a sticker. Or so I'm told. Do some research first, I dont want you dissolving your parts ;)

Thanx Gabe....I will consider this option....I am just not sure I can dismantle
everything....as in the handle !! Looks like it all comes apart.... but ??

I am going to investigate black anodization of the front section...called the HSOP....but...how much $$....as I seem to remember...75 bucks for any small job ??? Got ta do some research....and I would prefer to get it done local !!

And yes....the next move is to step up the game....and give these builds some..
curb appeal !!

Yeah, it can be a pain dismantling all the parts like tailcaps, especially when they're not meant to be taken apart. No rubbers or plastics left. I agree with you, I think it would look best anodized.

Well...Yes...I am now educating myself on what it will take to DIY anodize !!

A little electricity, a little battery acid....and a little anodization color powder....lotsa distilled water....seems not to bad !!!

ANYONE....anyone ever do this kinda thing !! Nuthin fancy....just want your basic black !!!

PLEASE advise with any insight !!!

Re: The Cyan Cannon V Build

Might PM Mr. Crouse, he used to do that, or maybe had someone do it for him. There is one thing I don't like about anodizing, if you anodize the threaded parts of a host or battery holder, there won't be DC continuity through the joints of the host. Those parts need to remain raw aluminum if current needs to flow through them.

Well...fortunately...I will only be anodizing the HBE unit...AKA the HSOP ( Heat Sink Optical Platform )....where the Diodes and optics will be positioned....so no concern of lack of thread to thread continuity in this area.

I am studying the anodization DIY set-up !! As with many things....one can go basic...or fancy....and both seem to get the job done ! You tube has many, many tutorials on this...as it is must be a common application for the DIY crowd !

And...as with most projects...attention to detail and discipline are key elements.

I am just following the path of other much more advanced builders...who have evolved from basic/practical builds to some beautiful works of art !!!

Someday...some build... will be both cutting edge...and....beautiful...perhaps...sooner than you think !!!

Mr. A...thanx for the tip !!!:pop::pop:

Re: The Cyan Cannon V Build

Well....I have received both the possible host candidates. I have decided that the handle design just looks bad....and I have returned to the Sky Ray for use as the host. See attached pics. Whatever the ergonomics are....they are !! The handle just really looks....Goofy !! ...and...it is plastic ! Whadaya want for 12 bucks !!

I will post some host modification notes as the build progresses. For one thing, 19mm will be removed from the front end and the four (4) cell 18650 cell compartment must be reconfigured from the current 4.2 VDC to a 8.4 VDC design.

Anyway...again, progress can continue.

OH...and we are up to Cyan Cannon Vll now !!

I'm so anxious for you to build this and give us some of your first beam shots. Here's what a mix of 450 and 520nm looks like from a NUBM44 and a NDG7475T; a link to a beam spot video I made tonight: http://vid853.photobucket.com/album...trim.82C30B64-E897-4DA4-BD20-2A458B826051.mp4

I am also anxious to get moving on this. I had a setback with the Dichro mirror I was planning to use...Had issues....SO....Angelos sent me a new Dichro !! Great efficiency !!

SO....I will do a test set up on my Optical Test bench...should have beams combined by the end of this coming weekend !

I predict...that just as with the Purple pHaze design....the standard color wheel will predict the color...Cyan.

But...there are a million variations of the Cyan color !!! I do not know what color will win this battle/combination !

The NUBM01T is stupid bright....as you would predict....and the
NUBM07E....well ..4 Watts o'blue is also stupid bright !! Perhaps they will balance out....and the typical Cyan color will emerge ?? Dunno ?

I do not mean to drag this build out....but....I typically take a S-Boat of time to get it done....and this build is even worse !!

I have had to re-design the coupling/attachment method to be used between the Modified Sky Ray host and the HSOP unit. This Sky Ray host...is internally different from the host used on the Tridentis build....so....yet...another delay !

Anyway....stay tuned for some combined beam shots !!

OH...for those of you who have no idea who the cartoon character is....
Google " Marvin the Martian "....which brings me to yet another rant.

The dribble that tries to pass for a cartoon these days....just horrible....either completely crude, stupid or trying to always be a vehicle for teaching....RALPH !!

Well....we have Cyan light !! See the pics....just a quick set up !!

The best color render that is close to "in person" is CC Test 2 !!

IMNSHO....this is a real beauty of a color....and really....looks like the color in the color charts posted above !

The beams are Tight !!! The single set of Cylindrical's are all ya need !!

Take the Blue and Green...Mix'em together...give'em a set of " glasses "
( Cylindrical lenses)

Good to go !! On to the next phase !! Progress at last !!

:thanks: 4 watch'in :D
