Ok, I got my housing now. I think it has glass optics as well

The open can diode I have is just a tad bigger than the part it goes in but I am guessing its normal. I can push the diode into it with little effort and it does stay there.

Any suggestions on how to fit it properly without damaging anything?

with a vise... use the back of the module and put the diode pins in it and press fit it against the other half of the module. .

Ah right, fairly simple then.

Just hope it goes in straight...
