Aixiz Glass Lens Issue

Hi everyone,

I noticed something weird with my last charge of Aixiz glass lenses for 405-445nm Lasers.

The first lenses I ordered (from cajunlasers) are pretty good and I love them. Unfortunately they got a little bit dirty after some time and I also needed some for red, so I ordered new ones directly from the Aixiz Store (Of cause some for red and some for blue) But when I changed them I noticed if they are barely screwed in the housing the dot on the wall was way smaller then with my first ones... Also the "infinite focus" is some millimeter farer from the diode. But the power differences are huge. My old ones give 110mW, the new 80mw! When Im holding both lenses in light they look golden / red... The lenses for 660nm look blue, so there should be everything ok, I dont think I mixed them up...

But how can I get so huge differences with 3-Element glass lenses?
Its almost 30%, just like my first diodes were G1 Lenses for 10 bucks....

The difference in the "focus lens gap" appears with 405nm and 445nm. Actually this was the first reason why I didn't use the new ones, because I had a way more limited focus then before, but after I measured this power differences Im a little bit confused...

Did someone ever experienced this? I mean I ordered 5 Lenses which are total crap compared to my first charge of lenses... The new lenses were definitely labeled for 405-445 nm...

Pretty sure Ive not... (The backward 3 element lens cant focus the laser to a small dot, just tried it out to get completly sure...)

You are right about the color- bluish for red and amberish for BR and Blue.
To be sure you do not have them backwards- the end with no slot or a smaller slot goes towards the diode.
If you stiil do not like them you have the options of replacement or return for refund via AixiZ -they have a great rep here for solving all problems.

Also i f you feel thst the lens is not tight in the housing you can turn that front ring using a pait of tiny scissors to fit into th slots- take special care to not touch the glass with anything.

btw where do you find G-1 lenses for 10$?

HAK= unoffical AixiZ rep.( I live close to them)

I only said G1 because they apear like G1 compared with the new ones (30% difference...)

Have you ever screwed in a Lens backwards? Ofc I tested it, but at least with the 3-element lens its impossible to not notice it.... The difference is huge and you cant even focus the laser near to a small dot...

The lens is tight in the housing, I think the main problem is that the proper focus distance between diode and lens is bigger with the new ones and somelight gets lost...

I dont really want to solve this with Aixiz, Shipping to germany takes forever and the customs are so slow here, it would be easier to just buy new ones... -.-

Edit:

Wow thats strange... Just compared my red glass lens to the acrylic lens and it has also about 10mW less then the acrylic lens... (250mw Module)

The dot is nice and the lens is 100% not backwards... I think the problem is that the lens is about 5 mm farer away from the diode, the closest focus point i can get is over 10cm from the lens...

There is definitely something wrong with both lenses I got from Aixiz. They should screwed in much more, but I cant change this without killing the focus...

I heard some lasers use a lens with a little bit more distance from the diode to get a better divergence, in exchange for power because some light gets lost in the housing. Could it be that the Aixiz Lenses are for a better focused beam and NOT for more power? Because of the bigger gap setting the infinite focus is a little bit more precise, so this would make sense...

Is there any Shop where I can get some Lenses for 405, 445 and 660? Dont want to make 2-3 different orders, but would like to get some Lenses which work the same way like my first charge... Good Power and the possibility to set a close focus...

you can check o-like and rayfoss but.........iirc they get thiers from same place as AixiZ and there is possibility they get the cheaper ones because they are the ones that did not pass QC for AixiZ but that is only my guess. I do think that is true with the blank 12X30
modules.

So finally I contacted Aixiz, at least I want to find out why both of my blue and red glass lenses are worse then the acrylic... I mean glass lenses are used to get a better dot AND a little bit more power, or am I wrong?

I really cant imagine how there is something I can do wrong with my new lenses which never happened with the first 3 I got... I mean they are basicly the same, and even if i had mixed the lenses up there are only 4 possibilities per laser to use these lenses...

I hope I get a fast answer and if there is really something wrong with my order I will just try to order some new one...

edit:

I just disassembled two lenses (one of each) and noticed they are actually two lenses, and one looks like 2 smaller lenses which were glued together, but there is no way to get them apart, just as they are made from one piece and just have a groove grindet in the middle. I dont want to disasamble my old lenses because I still need them, but is this how normal 3 element lenses are made normally?

FYI... in SOME cases the acrylic will give more power than glass however the glass will NOT melt or degrade in time by heat like the acrylic can.

Jayrob and DTR (and others) have extensive posts about these lenses. use the search to find them.

This does not explain why the new glass lenses give 30 % less output then the old ones... And I tested it with 2 old ones and 5 (!) new ones, and every lens gave 30% less then my first charge of lenses... Both were labeled as 405-445nm, and I got this result with 405 AND 445 nm... Also its strange that the new lenses are more far away from the diode at infinite focus, ofc some power gets lost by 5mm more distance...

I got no reply from Aixiz so far, a little bit dissapointing...

I decided to order a new bundle of lenses from rayfoss (so this time I get 3 different lenses, 4 of each...) and will compare them to the two kind of lenses I already got...

Perhaps it would be useful to upload some images of both the good and problematic lenses so everyone can see what they actually got?

I have pertty good experiences with the glass 3 element lenses so far, but if there is a 'rotten badge' out there i'd like to know what to look for exactly.

I think Ben means 'rotten batch' not badge. And yes there was a batch made for AixiZ for 400-450nm diodes that had problems but those were sorted out and once this was found no more from that batch were ever sent out.

Have you contacted Cajun Lasers to see if Clif can help?- he is a very nice guy and I doubt that he would not offer some assistance. While he does get them from AixiZ Chuck , since you got them from Cajun that is where you need to start for getting help.

FYI these lenses are made in a government-owned factory in China.

Wish I knew more and could be of more help. :yabbem: Do please take some photos as they always help.

Youve read my posts, right?

The first lenses I ordered (from cajunlasers) are pretty good and I love them. Unfortunately they got a little bit dirty after some time and I also needed some for red, so I ordered new ones directly from the Aixiz Store

I dont know why I should annoy Cliff because his lenses were perfect and the ones fro
Aixiz quite sucks....

When Im home later I will take some pictures, maybe this will clarify my problem...

And btw, this rotten batch... What exactly was wrong with this lenses?

They could be incorrectly assembled - the position of each of the elements in these lenses needs to be pretty accurate to make the whole thing work.

The coating should have the typical bluish reflection (with a light source more or less behind you). If the reflection is gold/amber you are dealing with a 445 coated lens - they are quite easy to tell apart, especially if you have them side by side.

I took some and disassembled them and tried any possibility, but no better results...

Looks like the 2 blue ones which are left are "only" 10 and 15 % lower on output then my "Good Lens"...

The beam and dot looks nice with this lenses, They are definitely NOT backwards...

Here is a Pic of my 405nm Laser with both lenses and the 660nm laser with the bad one, I dont got any other glass lens for this one... The difference between the two blue lenses (remember, the "good" means my first charge from cajung...) is good visible, but compared to the red one its huge... This could be because of the wavelength, but the acrylic lens sits normaly inside... All 3 Pictures were taken with focus to recieve a small dot on a wall maybe 3-5 meters away, so its very close to infinite focus.

Acutally with the red laser its impossible to do any burning because the best focus point for burning is to far away from the lens, if I use the acrylic lens I reach about 3 cm in front of the lens which burns very well...
