100 Dot Optic for Pointers from Blu-Ray Sled

Hello All,

While playing around w/ the optics that came from a Blu-Ray sled, I ran across one that generates a line of dots, approx. 100 of them in a straight line starting 90 degrees off the lens. (guess it would be called a single axis defraction grating?)

It fits nicely in a WL cap set which screws nicely to my WL Fusion. The effects are awesome, especially in smoke/fog filled rooms, and at night in the rain/fog, it is incredable. (Falling snow was quite impressive as well-hope to get some pics of that soon-pray for snow in PA-USA!)

There is also a small chip of glass mounted behind another lens in there that does the same thing, but not mountable in a cap set, but could be set in place over the apature exit for the same effect for larger headed lasers and for those who don't have a cap set.

Check out the pics! I will update pics w/ rain-snow-fog at night as soon as we have some of those conditions here again.

Minimal fog from machine added. In the fog outside, you can clearly see nearly every line to every dot.
Will post new fog/snow, other neat pics w/ this optic as it becomes available.

I know I have seen a layout and explanation of all the optics and what they do and so forth, somewhere, maybe here on LPF??? I think it was at Sam's Laser Facts. But very interesting to read, I need to go read it again myself! (It was late when I ran across it) If I find it, I will post again wth where it is for sure, unless you/someone beat me to it???

hay i got one of thaer from a dvd/rw il sell it if nay one wonts it

i got one that came with a cheap red laser

you only just found out about all these...
They are in front of any visible diode... I have a bajillion out of various sleds, bluray and dvd drives. Theyre usually glued to the red / blue diode or attached shortly in front of it. For some reason they aren't in CD drives.
My 115D drives yielded the same thing... but in 2 axes! Starfield grating!

By the way. It's to generate enough different dots to go to various places inside the sled
