The XJ-A130 projector

Why did you even used it as projector? :D
If id get one, i would immediately start disassembling :>

i wouldnt mind seeing the array powerd and focused via the reflector thru that lens...

Holy crap thats awesome! You put the entire laser diode array in a projector
The end of the second vid sorta looked like laser cannons or something cause of the way they were pulsed

someone here has done it - search "I have done it, I have the power!" thread

@KGB: wondering when was this filmed... I must contact that guy

Just for you....

These videos are with the stock diode array, and lens, running ~20W each with hacked stock drivers.

It was me! Except with a 140 instead of a 130 :D

I have another coming tonight, I was going to make some more vids.

The projector isn't half bad, my first one came broke though but the diodes were fine. (the DLP chip was bad)

Its too damn loud though :undecided:

Damn.. if the optics and fixture to get all those beams to converge wouldn't be so insanely difficult/expensive.

I've got a little bit of optics ready to do what I can with it, but I dont have anything that I think would really help.

The angles the beams come down at are so steep that I don't think any optics could fix it into a nice beam. The diodes in the projector are not meant to be used as a beam laser and it shows, the very first thing the beams go through after the knife edge is a diffusing screen. All they are used for is a light source :tired:

It's still cool that laser diodes are now brighter than LEDs for this purpose... Also +rep to both of you, for making and showing those vids. WOW.

Does no-one else think that those videos were a touch irresponsible? I can't believe we are 14 posts in and everything is cool, and +rep! This was an insane thing to do! Yes, experiment, build a beam projector, but switch it on with minimal precise control, hit public buildings and effectively, "crowd scan", a whole city?!!! What were they thinking?!!!

I love nothing more than huge amounts of power and a cool display but don't try and tell me this was legal or following safe practices please.

The only video there that seemed in any way, 'safe', was the second one as I could see no members of the public at risk.

I'm sorry if this post seems to be negative but, dang, what else was I going to say?

@ Pontiac - Was that really you who made those videos or do you mean you posted the, "I have the power", thread? If you made those videos, I am surprised.

The divergence on that thing was ridiculous-no safety hazard. Maybe a legal one, but not a safety one.
