This is something I have wanted to do for a while and finally brought some of my lasers and such to work. I wanted to see how two 405nm 500mw's would light up 28" fluorescent lime traffic cones (30 of them) in dark surroundings. Pretty cool results as the 405's lit them up brightly and made them glow . The other pics using 532nm, 520nm, 445nm, and 650nm lit up the area around the cones, but did not make them glow. I am anxious to try this experiment again using 18" or 36" lime cones, and also to try the normal fluorescent orange cones as 405nm would also light them up and make them glow. Enjoy

***my favorite pics from this post have been added to my "Best of" thread 12/5/13**

I do traffic control too!!! flagger, T.C.S., truckhand, pilot car. Im sure it's a lot crazier in new jersey. our cones are orange, but the vests are the hi-vis lime. Safety vests look sweet under these lasers too, but that's why so many wear them at raves. Knowing the human eyes peak color sensitivity makes many road signs' color make more sense. when my bird flew away, I made reward posters and made sure to buy only bright orange and lime yellow ones. (it worked, someone saw my signs and I recovered my escaped african grey, who opened her own closed door to escape. she was gone 5 days, very luck to recover her unhurt and only hungry. now there are padlocks on her doors)

sorry, back to topic. nice shots. and very clean cones. most of ours have tac all over them from chip seals. (I HATE CHIP SEALS)

those must be new cones or only used a few times

play with your lasers even at work ehh? the laser picture quest isn't content to simply be a weekend garage thing, it's spilling over into your job!!!

Brilliant fresh new idea execution, Bruce! For instance I've been using my workplace background for outdoor shooting for a while now. It delivers enough inspiration so far and keeps me safe from curious public's interference.

:gj: on the laser beam cone variations!

Blarg King - I run a distribution center that sells traffic cones and traffic signs. We have three different sizes of Lime cones and many variations of the traditional orange cones. We are one of the top distributors of cones in the USA. Orange cones also glow under UV lighting. About 6 years ago (my pre laser days) I brought in a black light and set up cones in a room and photographed them. There is a pic on page 13 of "Post Your Random Photos". The next time I bring my goodies (sometime in December) to work I will try more to photograph Orange cones and also more Lime cones. After doing this for the first time, I know what I have to do to improve my shots, and have more ideas I would like to implement.

Shakenawake - One good thing in this industry is even during the recession in 2008/09, we were as busy as ever. Everybody needs their cones. I see cones in my sleep! We have tens of thousands cones in stock always. We stencil them, silk screen them, etc. We also cut our own reflective tape for them, and have a sign shop that produces roll up signs that are fluorescent orange and now we also have pink. Lime cones are a big seller for indoor applications and non traffic situations. We have 18" 28" and 36".

Sinner - Thanks! I made my first GIF a few weeks ago of my "mask" shots when I realized while viewing my shots after the fact on my computer that and using the scroll wheel on my mouse that I had a few sequences of shots where the camera and tripod were in the same location and everything on my table (mirrors, the mask, etc) were also not moved. I produced some nice GIFS of the mask. I then scanned through my many thousands of laser shots and made some more GIFs where I had pictures in sequence under the same conditions. The avatar is one of my favorites as I had repositioned the lasers but did not move the camera getting the "dancing" effect. I have thought about dedicating a photo shoot to just making GIF's but it is alot of work and I do not know if it worth the effort. Maybe when it snows again, or when the snow is melting producing fog (the conditions of my posted avatar) and I shoot in my backyard.

Hwang21 - Thanks for the comments! I see you are also getting a PK-3D projector. That will be my next photo endeavor when we get them. I am also getting another projector in the next two weeks or so (used, not sure of the manufacturer, but from a friend of a friend) and have ordered a DMX 512 controller. I am looking foward to learning how to use this new stuff

Gismo - I have noticed many of you "laser" sharp photos look like they were taken in an industrial area. It adds a certain charm to your work! I used to take all of my laser shots at work, but now almost all of the areas I used to shoot are occupied with some sort of equipment. That is when I adapted to my garage, which is better because I don't have to leave the house.

I can't take pictures at work :( even if I could, there's not anything interesting about an office setting. Maybe I can get a time when there aren't any planes flying and take some pictures off the balcony. Nice pictures brucemir as always!
