Yo,

Just a quick movie of my wip scanpro. At the end of the project, its going to be a RGB system.

Its using my ~350mW red laser. It was meant to be my greenie, but thats having problems, and going back to laserwave.

Here a shot of the setup. Its ghetto style, and only temp.

PIC_0022.jpg

And a quick video. The camera drops out of focus several times. It hates my lasers  :D Using DMX with sound activation. I need ILDA

glad to see some more people getting into scanners, it's definitely the best thing to have as far as laser eye candy goes :D

VERY nice !

What is the dip switch board set to ? I couldn't get anything like that with my scanpro20s + DMX  Although, my DMX is now dead, so I cant get anything ::)

Can't wait to see more !

Awesome, at least you drilled the holes in the right place...

I seam to have an inability to drill in the right place recently so the base plate mine is being built onto is going back to work tomorrow so I can fix that.

How are you going to fit RGB on that?

Thanks for the comments so far.

@Diachi - The dip is set to all "on" except 1 and 10.

@lamborgini8 - thats only a temp thing, i have much a bigger plate for the final product. I just wanted to fire it up. Couldnt resist :D

Haha, my first scanner was wired up and switched on before it was even mounted to a plate haha.

lol, nice!
I can’t help myself, being a temp job, it still needs to be mounted :D,

My lavewave green, can’t be repaired until after the Chinese new year, and the blue is not ordered yet, so basically a month of fun with red, (might add the BR) it needed to be mounted,

Cool, how much did you get the red for? I have found a 500mW red on DL for around £250, not sure on the wavelength though.

How did you line up the laser with the galvos? The biggest problem I have that takes the longest to mark out is where the laser is going, how close its going and getting the laser head and galvos exactly in the right position. I suppose a few mm out wouldn't make a huge difference but I would prefer it to be lined up.

How did you line yours up?

Assuming I don't make anymore mistakes my scanner will be all mounted up tonight. It just needs a little bit of rewiring and its ready to be put into its enclosure.

I made the red laser myself. So cost around 40$

In the picture, my laser and galvo's are not lined up, just trying to show the system. Ill get another picture if you want, with it alligned.

Basically, for alignment, I had the galvos finger tight and bolted on the plate, and with the system running, moved the laser around, to find the sweet spot. The laser, being alot smaller then the average dpss, i had 4 bolts, with three nuts, one to tighten the bolt down (upright), to the plate, and the other, to adjust height, the third, to secure the laser. Once it was fine, abit of thread locker to stop it from loosing. Only having one laser, I had it about 4inches away from the galvos.

Then priddy much, slowly adjusting the X and Y galvos, for the dot to hit the top mirror, and then centre on the bottom.

All that for a temp...its worth it  ;D

What are you going to use for your enclosure, just curious.

Ahh okay then, my build at the moment is a single 50mW green but if I have enough money in the near future, which is looking bleak at the moment, I want to build a budget RGB/RGV hense the red question.

I have my green mounted on a thin 2mm bit of metal that is just a little bit longer than the laser head. There are 2 screw holes central to the plate on both ends that I can use to adjust the height of the module and the pitch (up down angle). As for the laser being pointed at the galvos I used a metal ruler and pushed it againsed the galvo mounts and marked where the laser needs to meet the mirror and scratched down the plate so there is a perfect line across the plate thats lined up perfectly.

Then I just need to drill the holes in the metal base plate and mount the laser. With any luck it will be lined up, if its not I can drill next to the original holes on the back and front and use a washer so I can slide it into position and tighten the screws so it dont move.

Thinking about it, maybe a set square would be a good idea for this. That way I can make sure the galvos and laser are perfectly 90 degrees from the edge of the base plate.

thanks a lot I'll try that when my new DMX board arrives.

To match the power of a 50mW green, you only need 200mW of 660.

What?? You're like the fourth guy I've heard of that has a dead DMX board. Is it careless soldering?

Mine, too! I used playing cards to position components ;D

If it is careless soldering, then it isn't on my part, I didn't even solder anything on that board ( It's all plug and play ) I can't see anything wrong with it either. I'm just hoping that's what the problem actually is, it seems the most likely problem.

So what do you mean by dead exactly? It won't output anything to the scanners on any setting?

The galvos just center and stay centered :( so it seems like a signal problem more than anything. So it outputs, but the output is useless, I've tried about 5 different settings as well.
