Hey no problem. You're right, it was to shave a couple pennies off at the factory. Starting fires with the glass is a good thing! Im pretty sure they knew that fire starting was a use for it, and when they 'upgraded' to plastic, they seemed to try to compensate by making the lens itself bigger. But no, it's not as clear, scratches easier, and isn't quite a perfect lens. I'm surprised they did that, usually everything on these tools are convenience and strength.
I was thinking the same? Isnt that what a survival knife is for, to help you in the wilderness? The only thing I could think of was if someone lost the knife with the lens part open??? Money!!

Well, I don't entirely blame them. That is what runs the world after all, money money money. That changing to plastic probably got the big boss and his buddies new jet skis this summer ;)

Yeah the plastic is definitely cheaper, it can just be moulded and boom, done. Glass has got to grinded and shaped and whatnot

There's a whole lotta carbon in this world, but that doesn't mean diamonds are everywhere! The ingredients may be plentiful, but the processes to make and shape it are difficult.
