Lol its all good, I was just clarifying for the people that act like they know what they are talking about. And I wasn't 100% sure :)

For some reason, Even my 445 looses intensity fast after about 100yards. Is that my eyes or just me

If that was a laser, it was probably staged. Regardless of power, a laser projected up onto clouds will only look like a dot when viewed at a shallow angle.. meaning the camera had to be relatively close to the source. The more off axis the viewing angle, the more it will just look like a diffuse blob which isn't likely to be noticed.. .or with enough power, a line.

The motion of it also indicates it was staged if it was indeed a laser. Generally when someone is pointing one up in the air, there's not just a slow steady motion.. everybody i've seen do it has waved it back and forth real fast at some point heh. Or had other jerky motions. It also conveniently stayed in view of the camera and didn't go over the horizon or behind his building... etc..

My money is personally on this being some dude who knew someone with a arctic or some other high power 445, who wanted his 15 minutes of fame.

I don't think it was a laser. The motion was way too smooth. It's very hard to point a laser at a distant object and have it be still. So if it was a laser it would have had to been on some kind of oscillating mechanical mount. Unless it was a very clear night you'd be able to see the beam.

It must have been aliens! :D

The video above is pretty smooth moving with the robotic head

I do it all the time. Its not illegal unless you are pointing it in airspace or at a plane.

Yes it is. All of the airspace out doors is governed by the FAA. In order to legally point a laser skyward, you'd need FAA clearance.

As well as a FCC variance for a 'public demonstration' of a laser >5mW.

Actually you would be surprised. Sure a robotic pan/tilt looks smooth but 100 yards out it is rather choppy because of the resolution of the internal servo motors.
I build a pan and tilt mechanism with 3 digital servos and wasn't happy with it's performance.

I'm not trying to start an issue with you or anything, just stating my observations.

Well you go high enough there will always be something wrong with everything. Just watch for airplanes and you should be good for the most part.

Should be good is not the same as legal. You shouldn't post inaccurate info. It could get someone that's not so knowledgeable into trouble.

Wel for the sake of these lasers what are we going to say the range is?
