"Tuning" between alignment on 8ft extended cavity

First of all, aligning that mirror 8ft away was a ***** to do. I only wish I could articulate into words how hard, and near-impossible that was. It's not even perfect because you have you over align it, so that when the minute pressure from your fingertips is removed, it will "spring" into alignment.

All that aside, enjoy this video of me "tuning" in and out of alignment for a strong 632.8nm line when using the REO 611.8nm rated tube (four line). I am using a high reflector designed for the Krypton ion's red lines about 8ft away, and about 6in behind the tube is a yellow to red HeNe broadband high reflector. This is the optic that I am "tuning" in and out of alignment to produce the red :) Also, a bit of particulate in the air to brighten it a bit. Enjoy!

(pardon the few seconds in the beginning and end, I'm not a videographer, but I try).

Wow, that's really neat! All that intracavity powa! Shame that it can't be used for anything besides viewing XD

False, I was just shown a decent read on cavity dumping. If I wasn't limited to a budget, and the speed of light, I'd get crackin.

Read here and here. Enjoy :)

Glad you like the video! With those two mirrors, I get a stable 5 lines at any one time, with 609 coming in and out, as well as 629. Though both are very unstable here. Which is puzzling, but it could just be the 632.8nm taking over and killing the weakest orange line. Even the 611.8, 604.6, and 594.1 are weak with the 632.8 and 629 are lasing. So there's a chance that the 609 is still there, but it's just so weak that once I get to an order where I would see it separate from the 611.8 spot, it's too weak to see. I had this problem with the 629 and 632.8.

I'm not sure if any of that was coherent, pardon the pun. Night time meds and all.

I also plan on organizing all of my instructional/educational videos into one youtube channel, and putting the link to it in my sig. I still get comments from people enjoying the HeNe introduction video I posted a couple months ago :)

I didn't take a look at the second one yet, but it doesn't look like they were able to get anything particularly impressive out of the first one. 100ns pulses at 1MHz at only 2mW could probably be done without having to use intracavity extraction... you could probably just switch an EOM or something at that speed on the output of a standard HeNe, no?

Just glossing over the second one, it doesn't look to spectacular either. Maybe I'm just being naive though?

I did some big updates to my website. I added all the current testing I've done with this tube, and everything you could want to know about it.

If there's anything you ever want me to film, testing optics, tubes, in depth educational videos about optics, tubes, extended cavities, etc. Let me know! I'm running out of ideas, and there's only so much I can do with this rail, but I'm coming up with new stuff day by day!

I used 3 mounts, two mirrors, and a grating in my last setup! You'll have to go here for all the info on it.

Enjoy!

Again, need anything done, LET ME KNOW! I love tinkering, and if you have a neat idea, I'm sure I'd love to do it :)

Video up tomorrow about my current setup, and how it all works. Don't have the patience to deal with youtube tonight :p

Tomorrow I will also be finishing up the testing of the other optics. I have another red optic, a yellow to green, and an unknown optic to test. The latter was in the adapter I got from Sam, probably a red. I also have two argon mirrors I may test for kicks. Don't expect anything from them, obviously.

I will also be one of those Argon optics with a yellow to green optic I have, double extended cavity to try to get green. There is a VERY high chance that nothing will happen. However, that hasn't stopped me yet.

It's a single brewster tube. Meaning that getting anything over 0mW was a success. It's more of a proof of concept by some lab students than a breakthrough.

It's not meant to be the next big step, more of a "this can be done" scenario.

It obviously works, that's certain. If it had not worked, they would be getting 0mW since it's a brewster tube.
