Tricked Out GITD C3 (Pics)

I have an affinity for everything GITD, so I took some of my strontium aluminate and epoxy and got to it. It was my first run at "tricking out" one of my hosts and I'm very please with the results.

Here's a short list of the GITD upgrades :yh:

1. Ring applied inside the gap between the focus ring and the lens holder. (With a steady hand this isn't too bad.)
2. Applied GITD to bottom of the module. (This was a pain, took very careful work and in the future I'm going to do this before the diode is inserted.)
3. For the middle I filled in the entire C3's middle gap. (This took several batches because it needed to be layered and also needed monitoring so it didn't slump.)
4. For the tail I inlaid rings in the host grooves similar to glow rings then put a haze glow over and between the rings. (Had to be done in steps since the host is small and it required taping.)

And after all that it turns out pretty nice with a permanent and strong GITD addition.

It's really worth having a GITD module, lenses have a magnifying effect on the diode that we normally cannot see unless there is light inside the module. This is a picture taken straight down the lens and with a quick switch of the laser the splash/aurora charges the strontium aluminate, then the diode can be closely inspected without ever removing the lens. (You can see here some of the GITD crystals and epoxy got very close to the diode window, luckily I used epoxy with great heat resistance and even though this is my most heavily used laser and I've had zero problems since the upgrade about a month ago.)

Would it be possible to mix GITD powders into Anodizing solution(? I dunno what its called) and anodize a host clear but at night have it glow?

No. The thickness is way too low to have enough material for the effect to be visible.

Has it been attempted? I don't know how compatible the crystals would be with anodizing but my experience with the green strontium aluminate is that even the most thin and spare layers have a visible effect in the dark, especially to night adjusted eyes.

Sounds like an awesome idea! About the host, in the middle where you filled it in, the edges look a bit rough, like you needed painters tape or something to block it off. The effect in the dark is so worth it though!

Yeah it looks a touch rough if it's right in your face or a close up with a camera :yh: It looks good under normal viewing. If/when I do it again I'll tape it better and prevent that.

It still looks great though. Maybe that rough edge will go away if you coat the whole laser in a thin layer?

I was meaning thin in terms of a single layer, being only one particle deep of the dust like pigment. There is an overlap with the small strontium aluminate particles being small enough to fit in the thicker types of anodizing layers. My question is whether the crystals could be made a part of the anodizing despite their advertized chemical inertness.

Note: I'm only arguing a single layer being actually visible. Practically visible though I would say no it's not worth it :p

Upgraded the focus ring to a custom triple trip by flaminpyro, he did a great job on it. Also removed the glow on the tail for a simpler look to the host.

looks great :) alot nicer than original. flaminpyros focus-ring especially makes it have a very sleek and sexy look!
