Perhaps this trick is old, but I post it anyway!

I got an idea and had to try it.
We all use lasers and have lenses in them.

I just took one out of my red 650nm 150mW laser and put on my
HTC Desire HD

(WARNING do not use some crazy super glue or something that might destroy the plastic on the phone)

Here are some freehand photos taken with this arrangement,
and believe mee it was hard to hold the phone steady.
(it's a M104 445 diode)

You actually get wery close to the object, so if your camera cant handle low light it can be a good thing to put some white tape above and under the lens, and then let some light shine so it reflects on the tape onto your object.

And freehand is hard, but my HTC helpt me alot with the focus.

Thanks!
It was a normal Acrylic, I will try the 3glass lens and the G2 some other time
and see if they works as well or better.
A friend of mine that's a photografer gave me a hint today, that it is even
possible to use a clear drop of water placed in the center of your camera lens,
and that will also enable some macro possibilities,
but it's a bit tricky to put it in the center, and after managing to turn the phone
180 degrees you have to take the photos from above :)

I will probably try that as well, but not when takeing pics of electronic stuff.

Good to see that it works on mobile phone too. It is a common practice to put a lens in front of the camera for macro shots. You will get that extra magnification power.

Ill just stick with the lens tip. I don't want any water on my phone lol.
Luckily my hobbies are lasers and photography. They go good with each other :)
And it's great that it uses Acrylic. I'm sure everyone with a few DIY builds has a couple lying around.

I do this to take all my macro shots with my ipod, except I use various lenses from DTR's lens assembly.

Awesome tip!

Ive got some Rare earth magnets with a hole in the center I might glue to a lens and stick to my cam that has a metal ring around it and see if it sticks

Thanks!
Yes those magnets are wonderful and extreamly powerful, I have lots of them at home round with hole and square ones in diffrent sizes.
(was doing some experiments with magnetic levitation :D)

It did not work on my Desire, not enought magnetic, but I plan to glue a nice metal ring around the lens.
