In February 2016, NASA announced the LIGO experiment detected gravitational waves caused by the merger of two black holes. The accompanying illustration showed an accretion disk with a helix of energy emitting from the center. Since the LIGO detector is basically a giant laser interferometer, I decided it would be fitting to do my own illustration using lissajous and lumia laser effects.

this is a photograph i made using laser projection. no photoshop compositing or effects. i used one laser projector running LSX with an etherdream dac to create the stars and the lissajous lines. the other laser projector made the lumia "galaxy". i built both of the laser projectors.

That's awesome! Great, as always! :D

The stars actually look better/more realistic with those slight beam artifacts/differences in alignment.

Nice job, would make nice mural at the club.

Now I usually hear "THUD!" when a heavy object hits the ground. Is that the sound of gravity?
