They're all downsized in quality and size by Imgur, if you want them in their full 4928 × 3264 glory, you can download this 29MB zipped archive of them all.

In a related area of discussion... What are the best settings for these types of pics?

congrats on the new purchase!! i just recently got a d7000 as well (upgraded from a d3000) and it's fantastic! are you using the kit lense that came w/ the camera and what mode did you shoot it in? In terms of settings, you seem to be doing fine, just depends on what you want to capture. if you want it to look brighter, perhaps keeping the exposure on longer would help. but w/ post processing RAW pics, anything is possible in terms of editing.

Kit lens for now, I have another lens that might be a bit better for low light stuff that I got from a friend, but I'm sticking with the kit one for now.

I shot some of the pics with just the auto mode (no flash), and some of them with shutter speed priority on and a long exposure (max I tried was 15 seconds).

I'll probably switch to RAW at some point, but right now JPEG is easier for me to handle.

And yeah, I'm really impressed with it. It's quite a big upgrade from my previous S3IS!

Nice shots. I wish I could have replaced my D50 with a D7000 but it was too rich for my wallet so I ended up getting a nice deal on a D90. Sometimes auto mode without flash can give good results but I tend to use shutter priority mode when taking beam shots and adjust as needed. Sometimes if I can't get the results I want I'll go into manual mode and fiddle with shutter, aperture, and ISO until I get it right. If you're in a dark room you may need to use a flashlight and light up the area so the camera can focus then kill the light before fully pressing the shutter. What can be fun too is if you dial your flash's power way down, let it fire but do a little longer exposure, which can vary based on the laser's power, you get the affect that the area is lit up as normal with a bright laser beam visible.

One suggestion if I may. Start using RAW+JPG. I have my D90 set to shoot RAW and normal (probably should go to fine since I have large cards now) jpegs. It will take more room on your card and computer bust storage space is dirt cheap now. JPEGs are normally good enough for quick things like posting to LPF but you will kick yourself repeatedly one day when you get the perfect shot that needs just a bit of tweaking and you have to use the jpeg because you don't have the NEF. My all time favorite shot lacks a NEF because I forgot to change back from jpeg only after doing some astrophotography where I needed to be able to shoot in constant burst mode without filling the buffer.
