It's been raining here all week.

It's not like we don't all have 100's of beam pics, and these are nothing special at all, but when it's wet I love how the beam sparkles.

From the math I did a falling raindrop should be eye safe, I think there's a thread or few on it here somewhere.

Giving the Argon a little run, stuck on the CNI Labby too. That thing is stupid bright. No smoke in the air for this picture.

friend who works at a scrapyard found this and gave it to me. I have no idea what it was.

Is that a laser module though? A 532nm one maybe..? If I had to guess... And I'm probably totally wrong, but it could be part of a laser level system, where the laser does its little whirly dance off that motor, reflects off some mirrors, and makes a laser guide line(s) on the wall for whatever? I'm probably wrong though, as those have the mirrors spinning usually, rather than the laser itself.

Is all the built without a micro controller?

There is a controller to tell the RTC to output a 1Hz pulse but after that there is no form of controller , its all just trigger tube ring counters , no micro controllers .

I still have to make the hours board then its nearly finished .

starlight, that's a laser module with optical feedback. Probably DPSS green. The gear motor was likely to slowly spin a grating in front of it. They're common in those $30 red/green starfield projector things. From the look of the finish on the final optic, I'd guess that's an additional small grating.

Gulf fritillary - Agraulis vanillae. I have some passion flower vines growing on my fence. I noticed one of these on it a few years ago. Then I saw a bunch of the caterpillars on the vine the next year. I brought one in last year to watch it. This is one of the pictures I got before releasing it. The silver spots are actually quite reflective.

Earliest sunset of the year, just after 4:00 PM. I know it's nothing compared to my friends near the arctic circle, though :p

I wish mate, this is my friends property. He's out in the boonies, just outside the city, so he's got all the space he needs. It's great out here, some nights you can even catch a little bit of aurora borealis in the north side of the sky.
