A few weeks ago, on a thread on what type of tripod LPM members use, Marco Polo posted his ring stand with clamps and his Laser Rainbow pics which are great! For mounting and manipulating multiple lasers it is sheer genius and very original. I purchased a stand and four clamps from Amazon and incorporated it with my stuff and got some nice results for my first try using it. I also figured out a way to attach my diffraction gratings to my lasers while on the clamps using velcro, alligator clips and radio antennas. A bit crude but it works. In the weeks ahead I hope to refine all of this as I have many ideas I would like to photograph using all of this. Here are some of those pics. Enjoy.

Thanks again Marco Polo!!

I like the behind the scenes look at your pictures. Need to get some line gratings and make sheets of light!

It's a good thing for sure to see another refreshment in your set-up, Brucemir! As mentioned by you, original kudos go to Marco Polo, the legendary traveler knows the craig:)

I like the circles pic in particular, the rest of the beam show with the glass equipment used is phenomenal as usual;)

Would you perhaps give away the source you've got the lab clamps stand from?

:gj: with the pics and set-up!

Hi Gismo,
Welcome back, I hope you had a nice vacation! Here are the links to Amazon where I purchased the Ring Stand and the clamps:

http://www.amazon.com/American-Educ...TF8&qid=1375645754&sr=1-1&keywords=ring+stand

http://www.amazon.com/LabStock-Bure...&qid=1375645836&sr=1-4&keywords=burette+clamp

The shipping charge to ship the 13.50 stand was 15 dollars, and It was about 16 dollars shipping to get the four clamps that cost 6.95 a piece. so keep in mind the high shipping charges. I think this is because they are not actually from Amazon, but a third party thru Amazon. I just ordered another stand and two more clamps I hope to have for next Saturdays photos.

By the way it was you that started the tripod thread so I must give you a well deserved thank you.

Thanks for your thanks and also for the useful links:)

I have a simple set-up on my mind, but planning to use a simple portable (iron/stainless steel) bar with adjustable mount holder clamps up to a certain diameter, so multiple lasers could be used and if possible with 360 degree adjustment ability.

HI Gismo, you will have to post pics of your set up once you have it up and running

I've already ordered 5pcs of simple bike mount holder clamp clips (360 degree rotate-able), which is the easier part, but since they're coming from China, a few weeks for them to show up are required:undecided: In the meantime I'll search for an appropriate bar/stick holder. Aluminum would be perhaps the best choice, although stainless steel might look luxurious, but eventually defeats portability of the whole set-up. I can dream of titanium based material:( (extremely pricey). Might even end up with some flexible & durable "plasticky" material, who knows...

Will see, time is on my side. Imagination is a powerful motivator as well:).

Hey EpicHam,
If you look at my "signature" it lists my lasers and optics used. The things not listed are the "Marco Polo" ring sand w/clamps and my home built laser holders that can also hold diffraction gratings. If you need more info just ask

I *just now* saw this thread, sorry for the necropost. I've been away-ish for a bit.

Very cool setup, I think the chemistry stands are neat in that you can have as many as you need for your lasers, and as many as you need for mirrors, gratings, etc. It's infinitely scaleable, and fairly easy to get things aligned precisely. Well done!

I had the clamps for a while, they were sitting in my basement for 10 years or so. I ended up buying a big carton full of them from ebay. I took a lot of chemistry classes in college and got really into that... there is a fairly complete o-chem glassware set to go with it, but I haven't used it in a while. Something to think about. Ha, distilling liquor in my dorm room, those were the days.

Cheers!

Hey Marco Polo,
Since I started using the stands and clamps I have been able to do very complex set ups in setting up my lasers and optics to photograph. Check out some of my pics over the last 6 weeks or so and you can see what your method has done for my photography. Thanks again
