Here are some new shots using uranium marbles, a mirror, and prisms from COCONUTS and Optotronics. Also used was a fog machine.

The lasers used are Dragon Lasers Aurora BW 447nm 200mw, Laserbtb HL-405nm 500mw, Laserbtb PL-650nm 200 mw, and an overspec 405nm and 532nm drom COCONUTS

ENJOY!!

Wow! Really cool, Brucemir. Once again your shots overtrump mine :)

I really have to try that trick with the uranium marbles between two prisms. I was wondering how to make them fluoresce all at the same time. Also, it looks like you have quite a nice room to do your light shows in

Hi Coby,
Please don't think it is a matter of "overtrumping". Everyones shots are good! To me it is the differences between photos, and learning from other peoples techniques. If I were to show you my first photos of shooting lasers, they were not too good. I learned from my mistakes, and figured out ways to improve my photo shoots, such as building small platforms to hold my lasers and diffraction gratings so everything is steady. I see many good techniques and ideas in your batch of shots. It looks like you had your set up on the ground, and were shooting downward. That right there gives me ideas that I never even considered and should try. I have all of my lasers and prism, etc on sturdy boxes that are 36" high. and my tripod set higher or lower depending. I do my shooting where I work as there is room and I can set up and have the freedom to move around. What camera do you shoot with and what type of exposures are you using?

Brucemir, in no way I meant to sound "negative" or "condescending", more of an astonished feeling :D I really love your pictures! :D Sorry if I was not clear

I'm using my cellphone camera to take these pictures and I leave all settings standard except ISO and flash / white-balance. My cellphone is a galaxy S2 with an 8MP camera.

You're also right about my setup. Because I lacked things to safely mount my laser on I made some small lego "patches", if you will, that hold my lasers and then align them so the beams bounce back and forth. On one prism put a diffraction grating where the beam exits to get the "stars".

Next time I'll try to get my lasers up higher, just looking at your new pictures gave me a lot of new ideas! :)

Edit: I'm currently searching for an app with infinite shutter time. I've had an app like this once but I can't remember its name. Something like lightscribe or so I think. With that it's possible to make some cool effects and drawings using your lasers. The current camera software I'm using doesn't have a feature to change the shutter time, I think.

Hi Coby, no offense taken, you should get your a digital camera that has manual controls so you can take time exposures.I do use a DSLR, but my camera (Canon SX-40 has the options to do do complet manual control and I can see the exposure on the screen before I take the shot. When you have the camera on a tripod and you can zoom in, you will get the type of shots you desire, trust me. You should see the rig I built before using what I use now. i used a clip board with a mount to hold the laser and an alligator clip to hold the grating. Using legos is a great idea since you can customize them to your needsI have an iphone but the quality of the Galaxy is definitley better. There are some apps for the iphone to take time exposures, but the photos are grainy. I am hoping to shoot again this Friday or Saturday. Keep on shooting!!
Keep on shooting!!
