Re:  New DX Red 200

Finally side 2 of the driver board.
The markings on the chip on side 1 are not clear maybe 27**AXFN? I am curious as to the driving mode.

Re:  New DX Red 200

Thanks for sharing. :D
Looks like a high quality built Laser from DX, and easy to mod too. ;)
Since its power source is 6v and a pot on the driver, it would be interesting to see if it can mod to run Blu-ray. ;)
The lens look just like the Aixiz Glass Lens, is the black plastic lens belongs to this Laser in "s_lens.jpg"

BTW nice pictures you have.

Re:  New DX Red 200

Thanks a lot :)

This is a very popular laser yet totally unproven so I'm pretty grateful for these pics (esp. seeing as I ordered one :D)

How is beam visibility? Does it sting bare skin, and how fast?

Would the diode be replaceable with say, an open can from a 20x DVD burner? The build quality looks impressive. Aluminium, I take it.

Hey Odicforce, great pix! This makes me feel a lot better about ordering one as well. Thanks for sharing!

Re:  New DX Red 200

i think the dilda-lazor is pretty good :p The diode looks directly soldered to the driver board which seems to be glued on the head.Maybe if you could get that off you could solder another diode , press it in the module and adjust the pot....Seems to be a sweet deal after all :p

Re:  New DX Red 200

Why do you need to change the diode? Unless it decides to blow, or you wanna try the BR there's no point trying to remove it.

Re:  New DX Red 200

Very nice to see some pictures, also of the insides!

It actually looks well built with a good thermal connection from diode to case.

By the looks of it, the diode would be fairly easy to replace if need be, although i'm not totally sure about that 'collar' of sorts between the diode and circuit board.

Also, the driver doesnt look half bad. I cant tell the chip numbers from the pic, but the topology hints a system with an opamp, 1.25v reference and sense resistor (the big one). This would mean plain old linear regulation, just a current source. The transistor you can see in the 2nd picture (near the diode on top) will probably get fairly warm in typical operation.

I'll assume the pot actually works on this one, and would allow to adjust for a different diode if you wanted to.

Next the spots from DX vs Sony

They look pretty much identical, though its always hard to tell from a picture. What current is that sony running at, and would you say the are equally powerful?
