My new Laser Box Green

This is my new green laser box, I made it from a broken Dell PSU, which the laser fits into perfectly. I chose the case because it was metal, so that made it nice and sturdy, it also meant I could make the case negative so it would be easier to run the fan.

This laser can also cut tape from 2 meters with a beam diameter of about 2mm, it can cut tape from 16Ft if I use a lens.

Now for pictures, I'll get some pictures of the internals later.

Okay, I got internal pictures, granted they aren't all that great.

None of my images use smoke, and they all have two lights on.

Thanks

So how powerful is the laser then? You must have a rough idea...

Yeah rough estimate is around < 60mW, it can quite easily cut through tape, and at a distance too, it burnt my phone when I used a lens as well.

Really wish I had an LPM, but that's the next thing on my shopping list after BR parts.

Wow, that just screams "laser show" :D Though I think it would've been best to place the fan over the heatsink instead of over the driver somehow, but it guess it provides enough airflow in the small box anyway. :p

Nice keyswitch on the side  .

Nice use of available parts!  Very creative. I like doing this too :)

I placed the fan this way because it was just easier, It has enough power to push out air through the vents at both ends anyway so air is flowing both through the driver and through the heatsink, so I feel confident to run this for several hours.

Thanks Dave, I find it best to use whatever you have available as parts. For the power socket for the fan I used an audio jack which was attached to a 240VAC - 12VDC converter, which then plugged into another audio jack which the fan wires were soldered onto.

Like in the bellow image, I used the smaller jack, which plugs into the larger jack.

I might be able to get some larger PSUs that are the same shape as this one, my dad has loads of them in his work, these PSUs are also a great source for other electronic components, such as Capacitors and loads of thick wire.

Thanks everyone for your interest :)

How does the visibility compare to how your camera picks it up? Great job.

The visibility of the beam without smoke is about equal, although the camera makes the beam look slightly blueish green. The visibility of the beam with smoke is slightly less bright, but still pretty bright nonetheless .

Beam with some incense being burnt for 5 minutes. It looked about equal brightness.
