Re: My new 8X burning!!!

Nice 8x. :yh: If you are so glad now, think that with a 405-G-1 or a LarryDFW lens your P.O. could reach 530mW or something more....:D

If you PM me all necessary data of your laser, I'll be glad to add you in the 8x Owners datasheet.

Not everyone likes the 405-g-1 lens. I personally hate them. The damage they do to the dot of the laser is just attrocious. I would much rather sacrifice 50mw less and have a nice looking dot, than 50mw more and capable only of burning. Just a personal opiniion tho..

Besides, while there may be more energy passing through, it's not all focused in one place. Those of us that remember burning ants with magnifying glasses know that if your spot looks like a funky square, your not going to burn so well. The energy even when taken down to a microscopic scale is still spread out vs. concentrated or focused. I will PERSONALLY GUARANTEE. that a 500mw (exactly) aixiz 405nm laser will burn better than a 500mw (exactly) 405-G-1 405nm laser.

I thought it was 33%? Thats like 135 mW

Does it really mess the dot up that much? I ask because I have yet to own a laser with a 405g lens.

yeah the spot does get a LOT of scatter and the shape when unfocused is rectangularish. The aixiz 405 lens will not give you the extra power but the power you do have will be focused to a nice circle without any scatter. It is a toss up for me. You have to ask yourself if you are willing to sacrifice your beam properties for extra power. I doubt anyone on PL would use a 405-G-1 lens in the RGV build because the scatter on a white surfaces would be really bad for blending and still frame drawings.

I respectfully, will have to disagree.

The aspherical short F.L. lens will deliver far better burning capability.

It concentrates much more power on a smaller area.

If you focus both lenses to a point,

the aspherical lens will produce a smaller hole in newsprint.

The extra artifacts are created by the diode itself,
and just projected by the lens.

As laser diodes are improved, the additional wings will be minimized.

LarryDFW

P.S. I think MISTERWILLING is using these lenses in his RGV scanner.

Not to mention that the acrylic lens tend to degrade over a short time. For anything >200mw, I thought it was typical to require a glass lens.

wow now I'm getting last-minute second thoughts about getting a 405G1 on my BR project... I'm probably gonna end up sticking with it though, and if there are any significant problems i'll just replace it

The Aixiz blu-ray lens IMO has the best looking dot of them all but it dose not transmit the amount of power that a LarryDFW or a JAYROB lens can.

I think the comparison here is between the aixiz 405 glass and the jayrob.larry, not the aixiz acrylic
