Hello All,

This is one of 2 3 axis scanners I've just finished (with some help from my trusty assistant...) Just thought I'd post some pics. Enjoy!

This one is the scanner with a Dorcy 40-50mW green from Standstone in it.

cheers,
kernelpanic

nice work! and a few questions! how do you like the sandstone module? and to wire it up in the dorcy did you just make the dorcy a case possitive flashlight? and put the battery in backwards?

Mixed feelings. Out of the box it mode hopped. I pot-modded it down and it only held TEM00 at the very bottom range. It was too dim to run the scanner. So I thought ***k it and turned it all the way up. If you note the picture of the guts, the mount is a 1/2" shaft collar with set screw. As soon as the dorcy was screwed in tight, the laser started running in TEM00!. It seems that the heatsinking needs to be even across the module. (Simply put, I shouldn't have used the Dorcy, the heatsink needs to be longer. I've got a MXDL jayrob heatsink on the way that'll likely work better. The weird thiing is the module likes to run hot. It still starts in TEM01 and doesn't go to TEM00 until it's warm. But then it can run for 30 min. straight before it starts to lose brightness! So it's a good module for a scanner.

and to wire it up in the dorcy did you just make the dorcy a case possitive flashlight? and put the battery in backwards?
Yes but as I said above, the heatsink needs to come farther toward the end of the module to keep the beam in TEM00 so I won't use the Dorcy again for one of these modules... But I will probably buy more of them.

p.s.- Diachi, the woodwork is merely burned in via a 70 watt laser cutter/engraver. (The box also was cut on the laser, as were the mirrors.) Lasers make it easy to build lasers!

could you or would you be willing to cut me out some front surface mirrors and sell them?

i need 25mm and also some 15-17mm mirrors :)

also what kind of epoxy did you use?

it looks kinda messy but quite strong! lol

Where did you get your motors?

It looks awesome!  ;D

The motors are cell-phone/pager vibrators.

I'm still perfecting the mirrors. Right now they are acrylic cut with the laser. The center-hole interferes with projection. I think I need to do each mirror in 2 pieces half as thick, glued together. The back one will have the center-hole. The front won't. That way it doesn't mess with the reflection.

Once we get them dialed in, yes you could buy some I think.

I use several types of glues. The one you see is an epoxy putty. It has a short working time yet doesn't run or jam up the motor...

AoiShikaku, The laser etching is done on a commercial 70 watt laser cutter/engraver. I do not own it. The friend I am making these with does... and she knows how to use it. We are looking at building entire projects, circuit board, case, everything on it. We may offer some scanners for sale soon. Stay posted... ;)

p.s. I moved the green module to the MXDL 3405 with jayrob's heatsink. It runs in TEM00 no matter what now! I won't use the Dorcy for DPSS. I love darkhorse's heatsinks, But they aren't long enough to cool the whole module at 40-50mW.... Simply an issue of size. The Dorcy will take a PHR803T once I get my flexdrives.

Here's the standstone 40-50mW module in the 3405 host, plugged into the scanner. It works like a dream! I'll post some beam-shots when I get a chance. It's going to be a fun Halloween ;)
