So I built a ghetto version of a laser scanner that they call on youtube a "spirograph" setup.
It produces pretty badass effects.
I just built a 450nm PL450B for it.
For some reason this comp makes it look 405nm!
Anyways I'm rambling! My one good pic!

My step-bro took this pic with his crappy-about to die- iphone
no long exposure shots here!!
I want to upload a video, but im still perfecting patterns!

Re: My Ghetto "spirograph" scanner pic!

well thank you!
im going camping this weekend so ill be able to try it out more.
when i first built it i was worried about the duty cycle…
I took it camping a few weeks ago and was able to seriously abuse it. But that was with a 650nm diode. The last night I ran it I was determined to kill it, so I ran it pretty much all night straight. It never died!!! We were up most of the night too. I have a few videos of it running, but like i said im working a few bugs out. Thats a lot to say when you see the actual setup.

Ok so Im still trying to get this link to work.
It looks like its on crack till about :30. I was trying to get the patterns to line up and didn't feel like editing
But I am trying to show you guys my ghetto projector running.
It uses three DC motors with mirrors on them. Each motor is controlled by a rheostat to change patterns.
It is next to impossible to get it to match the beat of any music. This is why I plan to control it with an arduino very soon.
I have brought it camping a few times with great success. I was able to run it straight for about 4 hours with no problems. And yes again the controls are very finicky so it goes ape shit quite a bit!

Yes its crappy but I kinda like it! heres the direct link if the video never loads

Heres another vid but with 650nm and different motor speed.

I still cant get the link to work on here… dont you just add the link between [Y-T] [/Y-T] remove the"-" ?
