Ahhhhh k. gotcha then ya no problems. Alot of computer parts suppliers sell fan controlling modules and they control the fan rpm by changing the voltages and if i remember correctly anything over 3v and as high as 14v will run the fan :)

awesome!

Thanks guys. All the lasers I have built have always used batteries for the power supply. Time for me to step up and expand.

9V supply to the fan will work it will run at a lower rpm but still sufficient for cooling, one thing, you may want to give the fan its own power it will drain a battery rather quick from my experience ;)

will do. i was going to wire my fan right to my switch where my 9v goes to the driver. i am not sure if this would be a problem. the fan im using says : 12v dc / 0.13A / 1.56W / DC Brushless Fan.

I have a question: Could you make a hole for a power jack? It would also need a place to screw it in for mounting purposes, I'm using the sparkfun power jacks for the 5, 9 or 12V wall adapter. You could screw the negative terminal into the case and have it be case negative. This would work great for BRs and other case-negative diodes.

will

Is this what you are talking about?

I already have a 1/4'' hole in the back of mine, and was going to ask if I should put it in all of them.
I could make the hole any size
Heres a pic of mine

Also here is the pic I said I would show you of the change I am making to the box...The section of dashed lines will not be cut out like the origonal therfore serving as a heatsink. And where the star is will be a set screw to secure the axiz.

No, I have this
00119-03-L_i_ma.jpg

and this
00298-02-L_i_ma.jpg

however, I now see that you might need a square hole or a hole big enough to fit the metal part AND the end of the plastic part so it can go all the way in to the power jack. Can anyone recommend a power jack designed to be stuck through a hole and tightened in (I hate glue)? preferably one that would work with the sparkfun wall adapters.

thanks,
will

Ill leave the 1/4'' hole, but if people need a different size hole that is not a problem at all.
No comments on the new design of the front of the box? Guess its good?

Thanks! I thought so too, I guess I will just have to drill some holes in the side of the box for venting the fan?
