Been working on rewriting my LaserBee's firmware for a while, and thought I'd share the fruits of my efforts. :D

( Best watched in HD, on YouTube. )

Still have some things to do, but I'm happy with how it's come together.

Congratulations Trevor! :gj:
The new Ellipsis Software looks pretty cool,
sadly i have the 2.5W USB Laserbee so i dont think
i can install it to mine. :/

...somehow I managed to miss this, thanks Jerry for bumping the thread. :)

I've got a 2.5W LaserBee to work on, but accidentally left it in Blacksburg when I came home for break. Will be working on that soon. :D

Though that might be moot if Jerry's got something cooking - curious as to what he's going to say.

I have been watching this thread for a while and I am very intrigued as well. I love your ideas on the firmware but I don't want to modify anything until something more final has been made. I wonder what Jerry has come up with now :p

Predictive measurement would be a cool feature that's for sure and is the main reason I am watching progress on your firmware.

Increasing response time is my main objective with the 2.5W LaserBee. It's much simpler than the other LaserBees, so it can't really be anything other than my main objective. Not a whole lot else to do! :p

HA, well then in that case, I hope you succeed. That is unless Jerry, having a leg up being the initial programmer, has gotten the jump on you and did it himself. He doesn't appear fond of this work so I wouldn't be all surprised if he would want to just shut it down by outdoing it. If that's the case then in a way you were successful since your work led to new features XD

At the end of the day, the goal is better LPM's for less money. So yes, that would equate to success! :)

I gotta agree that the Entry Level LaserBee 2.5W USB LPM
could use a firmware upgrade to increase the Sensor response
time. (We are working on that issue)

But if Trevor would have contacted us on this "upgrade" we might
have been interested in this.

Since he did not... we will need to reiterate....

For some reason I was expecting something else.

Anyhow, I do fully intend to ship a few flashed PIC's up your way for evaluation once I have a satisfactorily final build (with the lock bits set of course). Would let you confirm that Ellipsis drives all the hardware the proper way and approve it for use, or bundle it... :)

Thanks for the offer.... but please don't send anything
our way yet. We wouldn't want to be accused of stealing
or copying or reverse engineering your firmware algorithm
efforts...;)

You and I both are diligent about ensuring the configuration bits prevent this.

When code protection is turned on, it's impossible to pull firmware off the chip. I'm not worried about that at all. :)

That didn't stop you from reverse engineering one of our
old 2nd Generation LaserBee I PCBs or even the 1st
generation LaserBee 2.5W USB PCB....

I'll let you know when you can send a Sample so that
we can compare your Firmware algorithm output against
ours...

...right, but no firmware was disassembled. I just used a DMM and my eyes to write original code. It certainly seemed like you were implying otherwise. ;)

"Algorithm" gives the math too much credit. We're both just using basic arithmetic. :)
