Here's a quick little video I shot. I wanted this to be my 400th post but I think its like 403 ;D

Anyway, its running at 150.3mA and putting out somewhere over 142mW. It was 142 with a horribly scratched and crappy lens. Now it has a great lens, and I'm guessing its around 150mW. The surface that is burning is black wood. Sorry about the bad quality of the camera, its my cell phone.

Heres the link if the embedded file doesn't work: http://s269.photobucket.com/albums/jj71/GooeyGus/?action=view&current=MOV00022.flv

And some pictures!

These last couple pictures are actually of my last 6x build, which died due to driver malfunction :-[ It was only at about 120mA but still very cool. And it looks the exact same now, just with more power

Holy cow, when did this even become possible?!?! I lurk here all the time, and this is like my first real post, but this is really something special. The last time I was looking at home-built blu-ray lasers they were only up to like 25mW. Anyway, incredible job, and amazing laser dude! I didn't think that they were even going to have 100mW diodes until like a year from now. I guess thats the surprise that I get for not keeping up on the blu-ray news. How much do you have to spend to get your hands on a diode like this? Thanks for the video and pictures, its awesome!

You can get 100mW BR diodes for cheap now, go check out the group buys section. On the other hand the laser diode in this topic cost a few hundred dollars because it came from a BR Burner!

You can get a diode that will do about 100mW relatively cheap now, but 100mW is pushing it really hard. For the diode I used it will cost you about $260 (for an LG 6x blu-ray burner) which is what I would consider the next step up from the PHR-803T diode (the cheaper strong one). It will do 100mW easily without pushing too hard at all. Mine is right around 150mW, others have their 6x diodes at high as 200mW right now.

Nice BR, bet it's real good on GITD materials :D And also Ouch on those Laser Burns on your camera  They're pretty bad.

I'd love a BR some day, my dad has his friend on lookout for old BR players for me ;D

Cool, thanks for the info guys, I've been thinking of putting together a blu-ray for quite a while now, but I definitely have to do so after seeing this video. Gooeygus, are you planning on making the obligatory match-light video with the blu-ray? That would probably get a lot of attention on youtube or something. I just read a 10-month-old comment on youtube about how blue lasers aren't able to burn anything yet, but what makes it really ridiculous is that he said "blue laser", which definitely had the capacity to burn stuff 10 months ago, but he meant to say blu-ray or violet. You could really make him eat his words now! ;)

I posted a video here somewhere of my overpowered ps3 diode lighting a match... I'll shoot a video right now of the 6x doing it.
