Hey guys, as many of you know I have not been very active on the forum as of late. I just wanted to show you guys what I have been up to these past months.

Biggest thing has been learning Russian. I am planning to attempt to join the Navy to be a linguist and so I am getting a head start on the language I want to try for(although in the end I have little say).

The other thing I have been up to has been continuing my photography hobby. I'll put some of my pictures below so you guys can tell me what you think.

UPDATE: Here is a Solar Photograph:

Anyway, just felt like popping in and saying hi. I keep an eye on the forum but I dont say much right now. I hope all of yall are doing well!

Thanks,
Isaac

Re: What I've been up to...

Hey Isaac, good to hear from you! Nice photos. :)
I personally like the first one, it has a kind of desolate feel to it, but yet still draws you in to it.
BTW - Is that your dog?

Re: What I've been up to...

Thanks bowtieguy! Yeah the first one is one of my favorites as well. It was taken at 3am out in the boonies where there wasn't much light at all. I used an ultra wide angle lens(thats why it draws the viewer in) and a long exposure.

And that is absolutely my dog! Her name is Bella and she is extremely pettable, when she stands still and let's you. I also have another dog named Lucy

Re: IsaacT's Multimedia Thread

Got another scenic landscape done. Same night but this one was harder to run through post processing with. Taken at 3am, that sun you see is the moon, and if you look carefully you can see stars.

Thanks guys! I added some more up top. Made some time to do Austin Skyline shots and did a 5 mile(total) hike in the middle of the night through the Greenbelt for some waterfall pictures. Also went to Perdenales Falls State Park for a hiking trip with my gf. Hope yall like them!

Your photos are getting better for sure Isaac. Do you think your getting better at taking pictures or are your editing skills getting better or both.

What I'm asking is do you think beginners need to be better at taking pictures or editing?

I want to get a DSLR some day and wonder what I'll need to learn to get good.

My eye for composition is improving for sure.. In the past I would take pictures of something without much thought into how the pictures would be perceived and how the elements of the photo would lead the eye. I read a lot of forums and tips but I think the best thing has been looking at lots of good photography and thinking about what makes it tick.

With that said, my editing skills have gotten much better too. The more pictures I take, the more often I figure something new out about workflow. Each problem I solve gives me a new tool in my belt that i can use.

Those are stunning. How do you get the water to look like fog in those pictures?

I use a very long exposure time. In those pictures my average shutter speed was one minute, however I just picked up a filter that will allow me to run for 10+ minutes and still be lit correctly.

The long exposure means that every drop of water is recorded and the water flow ends up being a milky cascade.
