These have been sitting on my harddrive for about a year, so I'm finally posting them is response to disma here: http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1199762330/11#11

Never used metacafe, so I'm gunna try posting one of them there and seeing what happens. Probably nothing, but I figure it can't hurt:
http://www.metacafe.com/watch/1029177/infrared_laser_sets_cardboard_aflame/
^ Igniting cardboard with IR

and the other one is up on good ol' YouTube:

^ Lighting a candle - no matches!

Bon appétit

!!!! Good stuff... Is that a fiber coupled laser? What power?

Yep. Fiber coupled and focused for burning. Was running it at ~10 Watts in those vids, although it can handle more. Feel free rate and hype up that metacafe vid BTW ;)

What kind of lenses do you use to focus/collimate 808nm? I thought NIR and IR were blocked by glass and plastic...

I think you're thinking of deep IR CO2 lasers - 10600nm. To THOSE, regular glass is opaqe. Using a regular glass lens with 808nm might not be the most efficient way about it - but for some casual burning it gets the job done.

Awesome! ;D , thats what I was expecting from these! I can not get this thing collimated good enough... tomarrow, ill work on it some more... Ill get it working.
I got a bunch of lenses off the hp printer today to try... I think its gonna take a stronger x lens then the y... but getting this to cooperate is whats hard about it.

I'm really considering buying an IR laser, or stripping the pump diode out of my 125mW Fusion from WL, but I'm not even going to go near that until I have proper eyewear. I nearly lost my eyes to a WL product once (twice) before, I'm not risking it again.

Hey Amnizu, have you see the portable burning laser packages I offer that include goggles?
