good ways to photograph laser beams?

Does anyone have any good tips on photographing laser beams, particularly at night?

If I take a beam shot at night, it will be too dark without flash, but if I use flash, it will probably drown out the beam (unless it's a very powerful laser). I know that a good trick is to use long exposure, but there are situations where it's difficult to make long exposure shots, such as when you don't have anything that will hold the laser and/or camera still.

Any advice would be appreciated.

the only real options for taking pics of laser beams is long exposures, other than that you have to make the beam brighter via smoke/fog

First, turn off of flash, it screws with your laser beam pictures. For stability, just set you camera on something if you don't have a tripod, and order one of these as soon as possible. I have one and it works great for laser beam pictures, it is a must for long exposure pics.

I use fog or haze,
use a tripod, set a timer, for 2 second delay before it takes the camera, (you pushing the shutter button will shake it.

and turn off the flash..

I have got amazing pics by doing this :)
