Effects of 445 nm laser on common things.(pic heavy)

In my experience, the most common flourescence color with 445nm laser is a bright orange one, produced by nearly all brightly colored plastics.

That is a fact. I have a few Black & Decker cordless drills that glow very nicely.

True. Neon water balloons dyed with orange glow like :eg:. Especially through the goggles!

I have posted some of these before, but here are a few pics of a pair of 405nm 500mw making lime and orange traffic cones glow. Thgey only illumination was from the lasers. Also, some 405nm pics lighting up some dye in water where the beams went through prisms, and lighting up various uranium marbles and glass. I know when I am photographing 405's not to wear a white shirt as it will glow too.

Wow, I wonder if I should take a couple of pics with tonic water glowing.

Hey NRGlite,
Thanks! I was given two different types of dye from LPM member Mhemmling as an extra when I purchased on of his lasers. It is pretty cool stuff. That was the only time I used it. I have a little of each type of dye left. Maybe i will splurge this or next weekend and use it up. I have been trying to find more of it, but the person who was selling it on LPF does not sell his kits anymore. Does anyone know where I could purchase the liquid dyes?

Wow, where did you get all this glowing equipment? It looks like there it a powerful black light in the room. Now I want my blue laser even more lol.

Yep, silverfire, 445 nm is pretty close to the ultraviolet spectrum.
However, you should see 405 (purple). That virtually brushes the UV range.

Hahaha! :crackup: The metal signs they sell are soo funny Lol! They have some pretty cool stuff there too. Metal that is solid at room temp and melts in your hand?! Only metal I've ever known that is liquid close to room temp is mercury and its dangerous to touch that (when absorbed into skin, it STAYS in your skin). Some cool accessories, awesome dyes and a 2500mW blue laser. Was this site just made? It's awesome looking!

Gallium is one helluva element. Pull open your periodic table and check out No. 31

Those glow dyes start glowing when exposed to certain wl so when firing your laser they glow for a while after! Pretty cool eh? Rub some near the aperture.
