Water producing laser? That seems a really kind of troll's question - but there exist water cutting machines - however these use high pressure water beam with some "sand" (or little metal balls or something like that) to cut, not lasers. Really get some knowledge about lasers, or you will be considered as trolling the forums.

Apologies if I offended you Obeliskthdestroyer. Just know that you are not going to be opening up portals anytime soon with your lasers. You are correct in saying that we don't know everything about our physical world. And there are possibilities for things that we currently deem impossible. Do you still consider me as small minded? Because in fact I'm more open minded than most on certain topics.

But more than that a laser that builds elements using photon particles is what i am interested in. Possibly a water producing laser. If the tech doesn't exist there is likely something useful to be had.
@radim
Im familiar with lasers but id like to talk to someone that builds special lasers with different uses.
Eg. Incendiary laser:
(Fires hollow projectile filled with flammables, ignited by concussion+heat)
What useful laser applications have we not invented?
Hopefully I hope you have heard of elementary particles. The particles these are the bits of matter that make the elements named on the "Periodic Table" of elements. Photons are not matter, therefore they cannot be used to build matter.

Photons can be used to convert into matter however. Just look at pair production in QED. Although the most that is possible so far is Electron/Positron and Proton/Anti-Proton production through virtual particles. Although they are not actually 'particles' at all.

Yes, I'm aware of that. I do not consider any newbie here as a troll by default (especially in case they are asking about laser related accidents, which happend to them as time plays crucial role to prevent further damage). I just wanted to make OP aware how it might be perceived. Hopefully he did not understand that differently.

And regarding let's say "scientific approach" - yes it is important and in many cases it is exactly like you said.
Luckily there are some exceptions, especially people who have significant science background, they are even respected scientists, who come up with something totally out of main stream science. And to be honest in these cases, I often have to agree as they propose explanation of problems, where science just cannot give answers yet. This is also the way how a greatest brains on planet came with famous theories - take Einstein and his perception of time vs. Newtonian time for example.

But even in first cases I often find a nice discussion if that individual is perceptive to different views and able to have discussion based on arguments and constructive critcs. I was even often able to educate them and get them relevant information. Even I learned a lot as some of their points might not be a complete nonsenses - mostly they are often simplified or just out of context more or less.

Yes. If we refer to Einstein again energy is matter/mass (c is just a constant). Interesting is photons have no mass, but they have momentum "instead". That is why they are able to travel speed of light and not to increase its "mass" to infinity as it would happen with any "mass-having" object trying to reach that speed. I'm simplifying that a lot. So, let the link below to speak:

What is the mass of a photon?

We don't have to know the mass of a photon and it converts based on its energy not mass.

Yes, the "mass of photon" does not make sense.

BTW: That's positron - electron generation on your pic and their annihilation into two gamma photons of half energy each. Just to add as there has to be some extra momentum of particles generated to split them far enough not to allow their anihilation, shlightly more energy of entry photon is needed.

I was trying to locate an image of the process I wanted to show but couldn't find it. The process I remember seeing was was where a high energy pulse separated the electron-positron before they annihilated allowing them into existence IIRC.

Nevermind. You can even use a black hole for that and you do not need gamma photon, just virtual particles are sufficient.

But I've just found this:
https://str.llnl.gov/JulAug09/pdfs/07.09.3.pdf

Quite an old article, but I need to read it and find out more. Very interesting IMO and also to the original OP topic related - some "effect producing laser". Custom build anyone?

Lol, Radim. Interesting article. I would love this in a custom build. Anyway, we should get this thread back on topic.

Of course it had to be Lawrence Livermore. I remember them from a few UFO crash stories, firing beams and taking crafts down. Allegedly, of course.

I've just noticed this link - I was WTF at first glance, but after reading paragraph or two it was clear what they are talking about. I call it "science tabloids". However it is just seemingly breaking relativity - no information is carried with this higher speed. It is just mentioned there as well. It is similar like you might shine laser on very distant wall and move really fast by rotation -the dot on wall might also be faster than speed of light, but does not carry any information from place A (first hit on the wall) to B (the last hit on the wall).

Also there were some doubts that they measured neutrinos (?) faster than light (in vacuum!!!) recently, but it was proven to be a problem in some cable or something like that, if I remember it correctly.

Another interesting effect is in nuclear reactors - cherenkov radiation - also caused by particles faster than light (but in that particular environment of course). It looks like this:

My "Thor's Hammer" laser makes a "poof" a second or two after it starts to melt plastic and the vapors it creates ignites and then the plastic catches fire, Every time you see a red flash that's the vapors igniting, I have to keep moving around or the whole thing will catch fire ! Sometimes it takes longer than a few second and the longer it takes to ignite the bigger the "poof" you can hear.....

Here's a video of it, turn your volume way up and it's easy to hear.....

By the way if people like you could measure themselves by what they dont yet know they would probably know that it is impossible to describe something that does not exist. All things exist by definition

Well that is some post for your 3rd here ever !
