DIY ultra small 405nm laser build.

Hello, I do like to show my build on this forum. It took me more then 10 hours to build and design it. Finally done.

so these are the components that I used for this project:

Driver system: battery BMS, 405nm ebay laser driver, playstation 3 proximity socket, used for the laser diide connections.

Components to seal the laser: iPhone 4 camera seal rubber, iPhone 6 internal camera ring, iPhone 6 battery adhesive to seal the aixiz 3 element lens (pain in the @$$) and some o-rings extracted from old boiler components (Vaillant sollide and Remeha Avanta Bosch digital pressure sensors). And 3M 300LSE adhesive tape. All parts are ordered from aliexpress or ebay. Oahd extracted from broken boiller components. The iPhone 4 parts i used where extracted from an phone beyond repair.

host: I got this host on juli 2014 on vacation. I believe it was under $5. It originally was a cheap AAA led. I dissasembled it march this year, I used the lathe at school to make everything fit. It was precision work. But its solid and quality aluminum. I can beat and destroy stuff with this laser by smashing it against the object, and the laser doesn't break.

And as for the diode, I bought 2 cheap blu ray newish lasers of aliexpress. Believe it or not, but for some reason, they last for YEARS. I bought it of for $1,60. I used these diodes. I have the other diodevsitting in the post office. Yet have to pick it up but I will not use it till this one dies.

I just turned the pot untill the laser was as bright as my newish one, they where exactly as bright. I made it ever so slightly less bright just in case, but unnoticeable

And I used an aixiz housing. I made my own diode press and removal tool.

I used 3M 300LSE adhesive to seal the module off and make it watertight, and this laser has an security switch. At the moment, I'm the only one who knows how to operate this laser.

The only thing i need to make this laser complete, is an 10280 lithium battery!

Nice little build. I really like the resourcefulness of it. Is the goal to be waterproof with all the sealing work?

Hi!' Thanks for your comment! yes, the sealing work is to keep the unit from being water damaged. Its also protected agains dust and other stuff which shouldn't be in there. Pictures of that comming soon :D

Can't rep you again yet. Looks good. Feels good to have something you worked on come together. My bet is you are already working on another project. Anyone who tinker that a much (like some of us) need a continuous line of projects.

Hi! Thanks for your comment. I made an aluminum host back in Nov. 2015 when we had metal and i didn't know what to do with the lathe. Next project is an aluminum quality 532nm laser with BMS (like this one) and watertight. But i'm planning on making this in august. I will keep making these thing! I'm using an ebay green laser module i have from 2013, still kicks @$$ and i already made it semi-watertight and put good IR filters in there and an reduction set. I will post the build.
 
Unfortunately, the 405nm diode in this build i posted, died in a strange way. First, it was ouputting somewhere between 20 and 30mW, now, its a true 5mW pointer. The diode died because i had to clean the diode window. I used liquid while its operating so i could check the beam. I know a laser diode (with windows) is watertight. But it will condense, the liquid was pretty cold where as the diode was hot as the host was around 40 Celsius. (Didn't tough about that unfortunately) Condensation on a live laser diode die ain't good m8. Now the beam quality is shite, complete garbage but its still pretty bright at least. It will definitely be noticeable when pointed a mile away. I will keep this diode. Very strange thing and i will make a photo of the dot. Its at least 5mW and never saw a failing diode like this lol

I will get the SLD3232VF diode from my post office today. I hope its the SLD3232VF because i ordered some chips too. But we will see.

{Update}, say hello to my new laser diode chip. I just picked it up. I will press it in this afternoon. I will make an update + post all pictures from the inside of this lazor :-)

Btw, does anyone know how to clean a diode window the proper way? I couldn't get rid of those little particles even after 2 hours of cleaning and using new q tips. It was a pain in the arse and then, the diode went crazy. Disappointed but next time better. Still have an 5/10mW pointer. Very unusual dead diode characteristics. Beam quality is crap but it still lases and minimally burns (very ultra minimal) (Its not the driver)


(Update) laser got fixed again, the replacement of the diode was easy. Probably the easiest of all time since 2013. I will post a link to a video i shot on december 2013 of my very first burning red laser. Its a nice one btw.
