I know that I've been promising a lot of things on the forum, but I've been busy with a couple of things... one of which is this beauty right here :D

Hope you guys enjoy it... but honestly pictures DO NOT do this laser justice... I have included the pictures with absolutely no PhotoShop editing what so ever. The color is FAR from blue actually and is more violet than anything else. I have played with the color settings on my camera and the best I could get it away from blue is some green that you can spot in some pictures. If you guys would like to see me get it as close as possible to the actual color, just let me know and I'll HptoShop the pictures a bit ;)

Enjoy;
DDL

Here is the outside of the laser case I chose :)

In this shot you can actually clearly see the pot that I used to tune this laser as well as the placement of the button which is wonderfully easy and fits in the palm of the hand very nicely. The button is being pushed by a piece that was already part of the shell I chose, I didn't do that amazing of a job on this considering it's still the first one... Others will follow I hope ;)

Now back to a couple very nice beam shots...

This one was amazingly beautiful to look at... even in real life... it was just amazing!!

Also, color is NOT blue... But camera and UV aren't the best of friends :(

This shot was so amazing to look at simply because the camera's lens was reflecting the beam and giving off a very faint liquid sky effect that was surreal to look at! It was quite the shot in real life, but simply BLUE in the picture >:(, Still good to look at though 8-)

I hope you guys enjoyed it all and I'm looking forward to hearing all your comments about this :D

This is one hell of a laser and with one hell of a color. I'll post some more shots of it illuminating random objects around the house. The beam is actually rather somewhat visible without the air of any smoke or anything. The color is bright and noticeable even in a bright room with the lights on.

I am driving this currently with a simple LM317 driver circuit and using about 40 ohms of resistance thus limiting the current to just below 30mA. The output, if I had to guess it, is easily about 10mW. I'll try to verify it if only someone would lend me a power meter for a couple days :-[ I limited the voltage of the 9V battery with a regular silicon diode. I could have put a blue, red or green LED in there as a LASER-on indicator, but I didn't like the idea...

I will also be getting an HD-DVD unit tomorrow I think and will be dissecting that and bringing it to life in a similar manner... They're the same color I'm sure as they are made by the same company (Nichia), but I still want to actually see how different that are.

If anyone needs any help with setting their own unit up, I am always willing to answer any questions. I might be away for a couple of days though. :D

GL all and looking forward to the comments and suggestions;
DDL

You finally got a good working violet! Was this attempt 3 or 4? But my favorite pics are the time tunnel ones, it looks so erie. And can you photoshop one so we can see the true color?
