Here is another project I've been working on.  The host was machined out of rather thick aluminium with a copper heatsink.  The entire thing is held together by only set-screws and press fits, there is no glue whatsoever.

I find that while having a super high powered laser is nice, sometimes I also want to be able to just play with the laser without needing safety glasses so I added a second button which runs the power through a current limiting resistor before going to the driver (probbably a rckstr since I have tested the circuit with it).

Cheap-feeling buttons are one thing that I can't stand so the main button uses a huge switch with 2mm of travel and a very satisfying snap, the secondary switch is just a tact-switch but a nice one.

One thing that might be controversial is that I covered the focus ring, however I find that I rarely use lasers for burning and it looks much nicer this way.  If you wish to focus it you can simply unscrew the top and the focus ring protrudes from the copper heat sink behind it.

And exploded view.  I will be using 2 CR123 batteries but the 18650 looks nicer.

As of yet I have not put a diode in it, but I will probbably just stick a PHR in it later. It will always be easy to change later since I just swap out the aixiz module.

Yep, definitely reminds me of a krypton. I'm kind of confused about one small thing though, the second button. It's just makes the laser less powerful? Forgive my ultimate ignorance in the area of complex electronics.

Great build though! Already jealous! ;D

Pretty much, it will provide the diode with less current so if I feel like playing around with fluorescence or glow in the dark etc I can do for prolonged periods it without frying my eyes,

Very nice looking machine work! That copper heatsink must give the laser a nice heft. Great work on the buttons, too. I like the machined plastic bushing to hold the driver and switches. The result is one beautiful laser.

That is clean work man!

It looks like it has some time in it...
