I aimed my 1.3watt 445nm and a 5mw red at a crystal elephant for a picture... i was surprised to find an inverted version of the crystal elephant that looks like a "constellation"...(kind of lower left of center)

strange effect of the lens?

Just a reflection in the lens system. I believe it's a type of lens flair.

Looks like a lens flare type of thing to me too, but its a nice catch.

It seems the camera is having difficulty anyway, rendering purple halo's and artifacts all over the place.

As its upside down I'm guessing its a reflection from some internal optics in the camera.

Reminds me of the "orbs" that show up in photographs when the flash reflects dust. Conspiracy and new age sites are full of people are saying they are really spirits / fairies / energy balls / auras / UFO's etc.
