Hi guys. I don't know if anyone is already familiar with this hack, or it has been posted already (sorry if a repost). But, I learned about this some time ago, and finally came across the right kind of lens.

The hack? Remove a lens from a LD mini module (pen host), then simply grip it between the ends of a bobby-pin (for those with girlfriends/spouses). Then tape or rubber band it over your phone's camera lens...viola!

The Hack:

And here's an actual pixel crop at 800x600!:

Now, you have no excuses when a Mod is asking you for a good pick of your solder blobs on your diode pins!

That's about 100x-120x zoom .. and the quality isnt bad either, One can tell if its a shitty reflow job or an epic soldering job on the smt's

I know how I will be examining drivers that give me trouble in the future!

Oh...those are the full sized images just shrunk down...let me crop one in tight for DETAIL!

Thanks for sharing :) I've been using the magnifier from my helping hands, this is much nicer :p

I've been doing this for a while, I recommend purchasing a lens kit from one of the 445nm PJ's. They give a lot of options ;) Some are so powerful you can see clearly into the can of an LOC, and some don't zoom at all but provide crisp HD images of what you're looking at.

Yeah..but, what does it cost and does it fit your phone's camera? The idea behind this was it's basically free.

You can hold the lens in front of the camera like I've done for a couple years now. Cost? Less than nearly any part you'll be photographing ;) The lenses range from about half an inch to an inch and a half. The smaller, the more zooming (generally)
