Doesn't the anodization actually prevent heat transfer? :-/ Or is is anodized on the outside only?

I can barley see a heat sink, it looks like a black ring on the front. I was expecting something with more bulk, because i was either going to use a project box or this plastic torch i have. With the torch i can fit a lot more heat sink so ill stick it it for now.

from what I have been told about the Blu-Ray is you really don't need a large heatsink if your only going to have it on for short periods of time, like maybe 1-2 minutes straight then give it a break. I'm ordering a module from (user name) Blu-Ray and he says unless i plan on having is on full time or something like that i really don't need a heatsink.
if you don't wanna risk it i heard that if you put it in a host that's metal, like a copper tube (its been done) or a chrome tube then the whole host acts as a heatsink.

I'm getting a module from blu-ray as well, im going to get a heat sink made for this cool plastic torch i got.  I'll probably just have it for a while and sell it.  The heat sink will help hold it in place and look cool.

The black ring is a DarkHorse heatsink I think.
But yeah, a metal tube or whatever, esentially any chunk of metal will help, metals are good heat conductors, but in our case , aluminum is to be prefered. :p

does the lid not close all the way?

and for the next module i would say get a larger heat sink and this should be a great little laser for people.

it's only on the outside of it. yes it is a Dark Horse heat sink made for the Dorcy Jr flashlight.

yeah it didn't close by like 1 or 2mm. I think if I had drilled the hole for the heat sink a bit further down it would go down all the way. please realize this was a prototype and I've never made a laser in a project box before :)
