Okay guys, I just got one of my HeNe tubes up and running today, its a melles griot tube running off its matching PSU from an old supermarket scanner. I got it of ebay cheap! Im getting 1.3mW from the cathode end and about .50mW from the anode end!:D

These are from my JDSU novette hitting my 1" uranium crackled glass marble:D

I also have another tube which should be running shortly as well. I gotta say, I really like these HeNe tubes, very cool to look at, and the plasma gives off a warm comforting glow, I plan to make a lamp out of one of my tubes. I also plan to get a green bare tube too:D

I would also like to thank Sam's laser FAQ, without sam, none of this would have been possible.

Awsome pics.

Your last statement... Well, green HeNe lasers have the same orange plasma glow, so... :D

Billg519 on youtube has a lot of gas lasers filmed, one green among them, and it shows the orange plasma.

Thanks! Yeah I know, I want to get it to see the 543nm wavelength, and it would make a nice lamp too, more plasma exposure and with the uranium marble on top, taking in the green:D, im actually eyeing dave's from his epic sale, but I gotta save up for it and a PSU.

IMO that looks way cooler than bluray, and uranium marbles. I really love that orange color I want a He-Ne now!

Yeah it does, I want to try it with a green HeNe too! Lower powered lasers are better for these applications and taking pics.

HeNe's are really cool, the science behind them is so much more interesting to me than diodes or DPSS, everyone should have atleast one HeNe. You can get some nice deals from ebay, or if money isnt a problem, than everything needed can be gotten from meridith...

I'm goin to college next year so I don't know if there would be room for it, or how my roommate would react to a big a#* gaslaser haha.

Actually these lower powered tubes are rather small, my second one that I just posted about is even smaller than the first one, and the mini PSU I am using for it is really small, check the first pic with the psu next to a quarter.
My smaller tube is 5-1/2in and my larger one is 8in. Its the argons that are the big boys.

Though its better not to have these bare tubes laying around with people that dont know about them, because im sure they will be less than pleased with the resulting shock:eg:

The CO2s top the argons, I have a tube here now that is 1 meter long!

HeNe's can get pretty small, but still look amazing. Dave's pics prove that much!

I didnt know you messed with CO2's, what is that bad boy putting out?:eg:

Yeah, HeNe tubes look awesome! I plan to get a 488nm single line argon one day, but I currently have no room for it...

Yes, they're smaller than other gas lasers, but when you can get the same power out of a pointer... Idk we'll see after I get moved in. Maybe they'll like lasers :D

Meh, pointers are boring IMO, unless they are high powered pointers, or exotic colored. These tubes are pretty neat, the plasma looks amazing, and you can make a sweet lamp out of it, your roomate shouldnt mind a HeNe tube laser lamp right?:D
