Made a pretty good video of the alpha 125 to show its range, looking for someone who can post a link for me.

Just post the link and I'll fix it. Do it like www(dot)laserpointerforums(dot)com ;)

Got your other PM, just try not to draw a lot of attention with it, otherwise the police will take it away and they might give you a fine.

Nice Vid!

I agree with Chido, though. You need to stay more accurate when you aim it. I bought an $11 rifle scope from DX to mount on any lasers I plan to "aim" for testing purposes. That way you're not illuminating anyone who might object by mistake, and you can make sure that your beam only shines on the safe target you've chosen.

You don't want to be spotting the mayor's hillside mansion, believe me! ;D

Have fun but stay safe!

Yea, I'm the one that was shining it from the mountains. That was kind of an impromptu test, so we didn't really think it through :)

Pretty much, our friend that was recording used a super high output xenon lamp to signal me, and I just kind of let loose :)

If we do it again in the future, we'll strap it to a tripod or something ;)

7 miles isn't bad, it could do more easily. Stay tuned...

It's nice to see from how far lasers can be seen head on, i doubt you'll be able to find a limit really. The limiting factor usually is the horizon, but if you live in a mountainous area you might be able to find 10++ mile line of sight.

Yea...if that guy reached 76 km with a HeNe, think of what a herc could do....Or even a multiwatt green module :p

I'm quite sure you could cover any distance you would realistically be able to find like that - especially with lasers with good collimation (such as HeNe's) or diode lasers running through a telescope.

But remember collimation is key in these experiments - a 1 mW with 1 mrad would do just as well as a 100 mW with 10 mrad. Color is also insignificant for communication - to a selected photocell green is no better than red, for the eye this is a different story entirely.

Nice vid, i've been wanting to do one similar with high powered red. Next time you need to use a tripod and shine it at a wall or board or something and take a pic of how big the diameter of the dot is from that far away.

Just like Benm said low divergence is the key for long distance no matter if your are looking at the beam pointed at you or seeing it illuminate a distant surface

LOL i got my nova x65 taken away by the mall cops because i was shining it at the movie theater at the time they never said
any thing about bringing lasers in but that changed shortly after. But at the time it sure freaked people out

P.S. sorry about the off topic story :'(

Not too smart.
I got my Galileo taken away by a deputy of a school once. I was pointing it at blank walls and the sky at a football game. Not even at people. He said he was legally authorized to shoot anyone playing with a green laser ::). Haha... I got it back, but it was still lame.
