Yes Rog, they are threaded for a 9mm lens with the exception of the green which uses a set screw to lock in the whole module and yea I focus them before I screw them to the mount piece.

Here are my progress pics so far.

Multi%20Color%20Build%20Dialed%20in%2001.jpg

I'm pritty sure I can make them all with the same basic design. The only difference being the green is a set screw mount for the module. This pic shows the main pieces combine to make one.

Multi%20Color%20Build%20Dialed%20in%2002.jpg

The same cut of the heat sink and mount is used in each case to stay out of the way of the sled and other sinks. I will finish this prototype as is and get more material to make the final design.

Size wise it should all come in at a little over 2" (50mm)wide, 1.25" (32mm)tall and 3 (76mm)" long. give our take a little.

I think the heat sink diameter can come down to 1" and so the width would also come down to 1". I have an idea for an adjustable mount that wouldn't affect the width, keeping it to a pocket size. I will prototype something up in a few days.

sorry for the repeat info from another thread but it was time to merge the info back to the main branch here.

Cheers,

Finished

I finished prototyping the adjustable mount Heat Sinks. What do you think?

I have another design that is smaller now too that will fit a pocket sized build. Adjustment may be a bit tougher but hopefully not too bad.

My 8x Blu-Ray drive should be here today and my jayrob lens either today or tomarrow. Once that is all in I will let you know how easy these are to adjust.

I have to say that looks very futuristic:) Great job!
You need to be replacing that dichro don't forget.

Actualy I did replace the original with one from a SF-AW210 sled. It reflected blue and red better than the dichro that was already in there and the fit is the same. I did still get some pass through though...is the PS3 dichro 100% reflective of red and blue or was there still some light comming through it?

Thanks,

I cannot be sure of it being 100% but it is designed for blu-ray and red so it must be pretty good.
Have you tried green through the SF-AW210 dichro?

yes it is good but red is not. I don't know what I was smoking when I first tried it but that Dichro won't work. I don't have a PS3 sled but I found a dichro off of some drives I got in a 10 lot on ebay: Here. So far it is great with passing Green and reflecting Blue great but red is only ok...

Hey I just did a bunch of testing with the turning mirror from the PHR sled, and I am sure it will be even better than the PS3 turning mirror!

7%20color14.jpg

In comparing the PS3 turning mirror, I get about the same results for red and the blu-ray, but way less for the green.

The green starts out as 95mW's and is only at about 35mW's after the going through the PS3 turning mirror.

So, I have not built my next one yet, but I don't see why the turning mirror from the PHR sled shown in my pictures cannot be used instead of the PS3 turning mirror...

:anyone:
Jay

Edit:
The PHR turning mirror is great! Also, the splitter cube is fine too! I must not have turned my blu-ray to the best position on my first 7 color build. Because in testing my second sled (all PHR as shown), I can turn the blu-ray and get much less of a loss in power.

I tested at 136mW's (starting out), and coming out at 105mW's through the splitter cube and off of the PHR turning mirror.

My next build will be much better, especially using the awesome adjustable mounts from sightfx! :) I'll probably settle for a 6X blu-ray at about 180mA's and a 405-G-1 glass lens...

More testing:

I am anticipating at least 350mW's, maybe 400mW's for the white beam using a GGW 6X at a fairly conservative 180mA's and my 405-G-1 glass lens. And all PHR optics.

I get about a 20% loss through the PHR optics, so this will give me about 180 to 190mW's of blu-ray after optics...

I also use the PHR turning mirror in my RGV. If you turn it just right it's quite efficient, as if it has a sweet spot. In case anyone have have missed it, the cube is polarized, so the diodes must be turned just right too.

The only reason I didn't try the PHR one is that I chipped it badly removing it so the PS3 was the only other one I had to hand, good news that it works well enough to use as PS3's are getting hard to find at a reasonable price these days.
When I put this build onto my site I will use some of the info that others have posted here....if thats OK.

Thing is that with this experimentation malarky nothing is set in stone, it is good that you lot are trying different things...keep it coming:)

Like I have said before, I would have never even tried this if you didn't show how to do it Rog...

Of course it's ok to mention all relative information in your site!

Using the PHR turning mirror is going to make the amount of green power needed much less than with the PS3 turning mirror. I would venture a guess that a 10mW green will be fine for even an 8X blu-ray...

I second that.

It's all yours,

-Ryan

P.S. I got my 8x going and the sled all together. Adjusting the alignment was easy even though I had my dichro a bit tilted up. Good time to try the native one from the PHR sled if I can find it.

Thanks for the testing Jay.

It has begun! :) thanks for the tips here guys.

finally used one of the hundreds of empty PHR803T sleds that I have and chopped it up and am using the PBS cube and turning mirror to get 650nm + 405nm. Now I need to get a dichro...
edit: hmm actually reading rog's guide again I think the 803t sled doesn't have the extra PBS cube in there for the green? I just tried using another PBS cube from the 803t and it doesn't split the beam... i do need a dichro to do this right?

All you need is what is shown in my picture of the PHR sled in the post about 5 posts above.

The splitter cube for the blu-ray and red, and the turning mirror. The green will shine straight through the turning mirror to meat the beams from the splitter cube.

The blu-ray must go next to the green. And obviously a hole gets drilled in the sled to let the beams out...

Improved sled optics

In the 7 color phr build there is a large amount of power loss mostly in the combiner/splitter cube used to combine red and uv, and also bc the openings with which the lasers enter the sled constrict the amount of light that is able to enter(referring to the slightly "V" shaped optics holder). In my second 7 color build I have decided to cut down the loss by replacing the cube and modifying the sled as shown in the pics below. To my surprise I was able to find a dicro that combines red w/ UV almost perfectly in an old sony walkman cd player! I have no idea why it would have coatings of this type, but I'm certainly not complaining. Honestly there is no visible penetration of UV at all, it is all reflected. The red appears to have between about 5% to 10% of loss which is great bc I'm using an open can long diode so plenty of power there. There is another dicro that can be used, found in the dvd burner sleds however my tests have proven them to be less efficient than the one I found, but more efficient than the original cube. Mounting was not as difficult as I thought, if you notice there is a small hole just underneath where the cube used to be, I used some super sculpy to press through the hole from underneath to temporarily hold the dicro while aligning.

Well that’s all I've got for now, be back soon. Happy lasing:thanks:

P.S. Jay I just read your post about the phr turning mirror. I had used it in my first 7 color build, I'm sorry I didn't mention anything about that, but glad you were able to figure out that it does work well!
