Here I take an extracted blu-ray burner diode from an LG 6x drive and install it into a laser module and fire it at a flammable target:

If you put one of those in a nice looking pointer you could probably sell it for lots of $$$.

I have 3 empty sonar case hosts just for that purpose.

Did you use any smoke/fog to make the beam so visible?

there was 1/4 stick of incense burned to help bring out the beam.

no problem, fire, it was fun to do :)

Dude, that's sick you have it computer controlled. And you are going to sell these? Will it be a fully contained unit, or will it have some 'extra baggage'? If its a nice handheld pointer, go ahead and sign me up for one. ;D How much will you charge after its all done and made?

Either way, at 100mW, its probably burning as good as a 250mW green.

I only now realized that "other guy" on ebay was you, i gotta know, where do you find those holders? I could use one of two for myself.


And, if it doesn't bother you to explain, how do you controll the laser by computer?

ive got a modded die4laser driver just for a 405nm diodes ;)

what lens/case are you using?

andy, just aixiz case/lens.

diachi, it's a script made in MATLAB for the PCI1200. There are many other ways you could get DC-level voltages out of your PC, such as a LPT ladder DAC and a simple script made in Autoit.

i see cool.

at 100mw in an aixiz cases does it get hot? does it need a heat sink?

is 100mw pushing it or can it go higher?
do you know what the diode is rated at?
