Hemlock mike pushed his to 160mW for a bit, but this is much over the CW specs, without a doubt.

Everyone wants to know if the diodes get 'hot' and feel if they don't get 'hot' that they can be driven harder. While there is a grain of truth to this, the operating temperature of the diode is directly related to the size of the heatsink it is attached to. In all of these tests, I make sure the diode never gets 'hot'.

You should be asking what the diodes power dissipation is at a given output. This figure can be directly calculated by the plot I posted (P=I*V) multiply the Voltage drop of the diode by the current in Amps and subtract the laser power output from this result and you have the thermal power generation of the diode:

Like DrL said, I put it at 160 mA long enough to measure it. We'd like to see what you can do too. Go after it with wild abandon ;D
