Just making a spot for a new video I shot today in the lab. Yeah it was a typical Friday...slow. The system is a 200mW 671nm DPSS averaging 270mW. Not too impressive but you don't see them everyday.

And here it is:

How bright would this be compared to a long open can at the same power?

it'd be duller, since 671nm is closer to the IR band than 650-660nm

But the beam specs should be a lot better than a diode laser

Yeah specs are a bit better. About a 1mm beam diameter with <1.2 mrad divergence and <3% power stability.

Not only do you make videos of awesome lasers, you also have awesome music in your vids ! well done again !

Why thank you. I enjoy putting the videos together. By the way my next video, due out in a few weeks, will be a 20mW 593.5nm portable. Of course there will be no burnination but it will have all that yellow goodness.

Ooh that WILL be nice, it's not every day you get to see a video of a 20mW Yellow !

Was this video shot in IR? It looks like it.

Nice video.
In comparison to a 532nm DPSS, how is the efficiency? The module looks pretty small.

Efficiency sucks. Figure a 532nm uses the primary lasing line of YVO4 (1064nm) where the 671nm uses a minor lasing line at 1342nm so the gain media is pumped really hard. Yes the IR was on during the filming as it was somewhat dark on the table and the camera will have focusing problems if it is too dark so I avoided it all together.

Great video!

It seems that 671 nm DPSS lasers aren't very common. I asked about them a while ago and several people told me they didn't exist.

Nice video once again Frothy. I would be interested to see the color difference between 671 & 650nm, must be a really DEEP RED.

P.S. When you make your next video with the 593.5nm 20mW, you should be able to pop a balloon, especially while using a magnifying glass... might take a second but considering 35mW of 473nm could do it in an instant with a magnifying glass, I'd bet the 593.5nm @ 20mW could do it.
