I started this thread mainly to have a place to show of my new creation and any variations to it, I took an old V5 flex with an iffy pot that I got back from my pyro build(replace with new for build). It was set to 600mA before so I made the final solder bridge and turned the pot up, than down a hair. My multimeter is broken and I need a new one, but before it went It gave me a reading of around 1.3A, but it might be more, or less. Once I have a new DMM I will decide if I should get a new flex or use this one, then I will make a labby build with a project box. This is very powerfull, I compared it to my 600mW pocket mini and it blows it away, when I look at the dot with saftey glasses I can actually see a blue halo around the dot, which isnt present with the pocket mini build, and it instantly punches through cardboard when focused over 5ft away:eg:
Here is a video of what this beast can do, more will come soon...

*saftey glasses were used the entire time....

*reserved space for updates*

UPDATE:---This is now going to go into a 18650 jayrob kit with flex set to 1.1A:eg:
More updates will follow when kit arrives!

UPDATE: 18650 build complete!! See below for the best 1W 445nm beamshots of your life:D

Which glasses are you using when you see this BluHalo? :D

«EDIT» No my space! Stolen! :p

Im using my DL glasses:Laser Glasses - Red laser beam protection 600-740nm :: Laser Safety :: Dragon Lasers
The ones for 650nm have an OD 4 to 450nm the ones for 532nm only have an OD 2 for 445nm. They work okay, nothing special though, I wouldnt trust them to a direct hit, just excess rays..

Just to drive the danger point home to noobs, I made a special video! Enjoy furby's 445nm laser eye surgery:eg:

That was a plastic toy, imagine your retina there instead!!!

Maybe your tape burning wasnt at focal :p At 900mA I was able to slice it like the tape was made of butter, and the laser was a steak knife...Instant cut :D When hitting stuff like PVC pipe or black tape, I just get a jet of smoke, litterly shooting out in a stream, fill my room quickly.

PVC pipe will burn, the laser dot sits on it, 3 secs later, it shoots smoke.

Nice video, Fun laser indeed.

So... when does this go into a Lab build? Any TEC planned? How is that HS working for ya?

I may consider a lab build, I have a old >20mhz transmitter with a massive heatsink. I might just buy my own heatsink though, because I plan to use that heatsink for some 800-1200amp IGBT bricks for a DRSSTC :D

Lol, I dont even need a second, it burns immediately, especially light colored cardboard and cardstock, and it wasnt to its focal but close. Even my 600mW pocket mini slices electro tape like butter, I wasnt trying to cut the tape just show what it could do, thats why I held it up to the light so you can see through it. Burning paper and cardboard is cool but I dont like to burn the tape indoors because it stinks real bad and is a toxic smoke;)
I to enjoy the shooting streaming smoke:eg:

Not sure yet, no TEC though, the maxsink is more than enough, doesnt even get warm, literally the best HS I have seen so far(hobbyist). I was gonna put it in a project box but if my financial situation improves I will get a jayrob 18650 kit instead. I had a project box sitting around but I started my HeNe lamp with it instead, and I would rather keep my maxsink free for testing purposes. Once I get a new DMM I will tweek it some more before the build, I dont even really know the current but its definitely over 1A....

Sweet laser !
Try focusing it down to a point and make another vid showing it's increased awesomeness.

Re: 445nm >1W beam of doom

That sure looks like a powerful laser, and i love you using the bigass maxsink to cool it. TEC is nice for certain applications, but with these 445 nm doides a big conventional heatsink seems to be the right choice.

Remember that these diodes are designed to operate at somewhat elevated temperatures in the projector they came from... and wavelength increase due to temperatre rising isn't a concern either - they'll just shift from blue to more visible blue as long as they survive ;)

Re: 445nm >1W beam of doom

Thanks Guys! I'm glad everyone likes it so much, it is pretty amazing to be able to make lasers of this power and color in your basement:D

Well, I placed an order for a jayrob 18650 today, and have officially decided to build this into the portable 18650 kit, flexdrive will be set to 1.1A!!!:eg:
Im pretty syked about this, ever since I got these diodes I have wanted more and more power out of them. If we ever determine the limit of the a150 binned diodes, I wouldnt mind making a >2W build, labby of course for safety reasons.

Anyway, I will take another video later on with some more burning, and of course a nice update video once its in the 18650 kit!

Re: 445nm >1W beam of doom

Had some mist in the air tonight so I took some beamshots with my pocket mini build, 600mW of 445nm!!!
First two are shining into the night sky, last one is shining on some trees across my property...

Anyhow hope someone enjoys these, thanks for looking, more updates to follow on the >1W build!
